Site Chemist Job in Worcestershire, UK

Victoria Walker at CK Science is recruiting for a Site Chemist to join a hazardous waste and environmental company based in Worcestershire on a full time, permanent basis.

 

Site Chemist Job Description:

As a Site Chemist, the main purpose of your role will be to work in conjunction with the Site Manager running a busy Transfer Station.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Arranging Outgoing and Incoming Loads if required
  • Working with other site Chemists and operatives in the yard bulking and palletising loads
  • Adhering to Company procedures as set out
  • Stock Control as set out by P.P.C Permit
  • All H&S issues for staff reporting to the Site Manager
  • Daily inspections, logs, and signage in the transfer station
  • Cover for other Chemists during holidays
  • Preparing reports for the Site Manager
  • Liaising with Group Transport for any requirements
  • Completing all paperwork required
  • Working with all regulations set out by the HSE, EA and any other regulatory board
  • Dealing with all Non Conforming Loads as set out in Procedures

 

Qualifications, Skills and Experience Required:

As a Site Chemist, you will have the following qualifications, skills and experience:

  • Degree or equivalent in Chemistry ideally, HND or equivalent in chemistry as a minimum
  • Driving Licence – essential requirement
  • A good command of the English language
  • WAMITAB C.O.T.C Level 4 in Transfer and Treatment Hazardous Wastes – advantageous
  • Computer Literate
  • Fork Lift Licence advantageous
  • IOSH or NEBOSH H&S Qualification advantageous
  • Experience working in a busy Hazardous Waste Transfer Station required (or within QC as a minimum)

 

Useful Information:

As Site Chemist you will be working with a hazardous waste and environmental company based in Worcestershire.

  • Normal Working Hours will be 0800-1700
  • Extra Hours may be required in order to complete the job.
  • HND chemistry is a minimum requirement to be considered for this role
  • A valid driving licence is an essential requirement for this role

QA & Development Shift Supervisor – West Midlands

Victoria Walker at CK Science is currently recruiting for a Quality Assurance and Development Shift Supervisor to join a specialty chemical manufacturer based in the West Midlands

The company:

The successful candidate for this QA & Development Shift Supervisor role will join a  company who specialise in the manufacture of chemicals which have applications in a variety of markets, including electronics, automotive, flavours/ fragrances and more.

Responsibilities:

The main roles and responsibilities of this QA & Development Shift Supervisor will be to manage the provision of analysis of works products and day to day running of the laboratory. This is a key role in the site emergency procedure and responsible for ensuring health, safety and environmental compliance. You will also:

  • Supervise and co-ordinate work within the shift section.
  • Provision of certification for site products and the authorisation of certificates will be your responsibility, as well as development of methods and maintaining existing ones.
  • You will also be responsible for department safety standards, carrying out and maintaining department risk assessments and maintaining department instrumentation.
  • You will ensure that the QAD Shift Chemists are organized and will have customer contact regarding queries and complaints, certificates of analysis for site products and will deal with regulatory bodies amongst other external and internal contacts.

Qualifications and skills:

In order to be considered for this QA & Development Shift Supervisor role you will have a minimum qualification of a degree in chemistry (or equivalent) which is an essential requirement for this position.

  • With experience performing Wet Chemistry techniques as well as having earned Team Leader status (managing a small team)
  • You will be capable of making decisions out of office hours when necessary due to limited staff/ managers off site.
  • You will also have the ability to work on your own initiative in the absence of management and will have the confidence to communicate at all levels and to problem solve.
  • Excellent communication and management skills are required.
  • The successful candidate needs to be able to motivate and develop individuals to meet the shift requirements through clear communication and direction.
  • The incumbent needs to be able to react calmly to emergency situations and be capable of making decisions under pressure.
  • A sound technical knowledge is required along with an in-depth knowledge of process operations and practical problem solving skills.
  • Shift work experience along with IOSH or experience with laboratory health and safety is desirable as is knowledge of Site Products, Process Plants and Raw Materials.
  • Previous analytical experience involving phosphorus based chemicals would be a distinct advantage as well as use of wet chemistry (volumetric/ gravimetric) and instrumentation (titroprocessors, UV Visible spectrophotometer, atomic fluorescence, atomic absorbance, NMR, GC).

The Role:

Please note that this QA & Development Shift Supervisor role involves working 12 hour day and night shifts on a 5 shift rota which covers the site 24 hours per day, 365 days per annum. This also includes providing cover in the event of absence of other members of the team.

The selected candidate will be able to get to work in all weather as the site cannot operate without a QADSS. A reasonable degree of physical fitness is required in order to climb gantries etc.

Packaging Technician – West Midlands

Naynesh Mistry at CK Science is currently recruiting for a Packaging Technician to join a world class manufacturer of personal care products, to work at their site in the West Midlands on a permanent basis. 

Job role and responsibilities:

As a Packaging Technician you will assist the Retail Technical Manager in the development of new wet wipe products. A key part of the role will be in the development of packaging – film, labels and corrugate. The position will be responsible for leading and managing projects smaller in scope to ensure consumer acceptance, customer satisfaction, safety and efficacy. The position will also support UK Sales efforts with product sample preparation and technical analysis.

The associate will take work direction from the Technical Director and Retail Technical Manager in the form of project tasks, objectives and strategies, and must be able to work with minimal supervision.

  • Lead the development and introduction of new and improved packaging.
  • Liaise with internal departments, external suppliers and consultants.
  • Assist the Retail Technical Manager and Technical Director in the development of new wet wipe products.
  • Assist in the preparation and maintenance of Product Information Portfolios (PIP) for each wet wipe product to comply with EU Cosmetic regulations.
  • Arrange challenge testing, efficiency testing, dermatological testing, ageing studies and other technical evaluations etc, within a time scale as necessary. This will involve interpretation and reporting of results.
  • Arrange and technically support factory trials. This will involve liaising with operations, QA, production planning and warehouse to assure objectives are met, setting provisional product specifications, supporting trials, evaluating results, issuing reports and recommending appropriate action.
  • Provide technical information and support Sample Technicians when required. This includes product sample preparation.
  • Ensure laboratory safety policies and guidelines are followed and carry out all laboratory work in a safe manner.
  • Travel may be required as a part of the role. This may be international and a current driving license and passport are requirements of the role.
  • There may be some out of hours attendance on site required.
  • Ensure that you understand and comply with Health & Safety at Work regulations through training and communication.
  • Continually comply with the company hygiene requirements and Good Manufacturing procedures as set out by management.

Qualifications and skills:

The successful candidate for this Packaging Technician role will have the following skills:

  • The ideal candidate must have a scientific degree from an accredited university. This might include Packaging Technology or science or equivalent.
  • Computer proficient (e-mail, Microsoft Office, Word and Excel).
  • Working knowledge of COSHH and safe lab practices.
  • Must be self-motivated, have good attention to detail and able to work with minimal supervision.
  • The candidate must be proficient in PC programs: MS OFFICE, Outlook, MS-EXCEL, MS-WORD and POWERPOINT.
  • The associate in this position is expected to use project management, technical skills and education to support product development for specific UK customers.
  •  A high level of initiative and independent work style are expected in order to meet the aggressive timelines demanded by customers.

Asbestos Manager Job – West Midlands, UK

Our client, a company specialising in environmental safety, currently requires an Asbestos Manager to join their team based in the West Midlands.

 

Responsibilities:

The main roles and responsibilities of this Asbestos Manager position will be to manage, maintain and develop the Quality Management Systems and UKAS accreditation.

You will liaise directly with client contacts and carry out site audits as part of the in-house quality control system. As well as producing and altering CAD drawings you will oversee and develop an asbestos team, and project manage contracts and portfolios. This will involve developing client relationships and providing technical reviews, reports and quotations. You will assist with the provision of a variety of training and will work within the UKAS accreditation for sampling and analysis as appropriate.

The post will involve travelling and working at weekends and other unsocial hours as required fromtime to time. Approved overtime and travel and subsistence costs are payable.

 

Person Specification:

To be considered for this Asbestos Manager role you must hold all or some of the following qualifications: P402, P403, P404, S301, CCP (Asbestos).

A full driving license is essential.

You will be experienced in a UKAS accredited company in undertaking surveys of asbestos in buildings, carrying out asbestos monitoring and clearance surveys, assisting with the management of health and safety at sites where asbestos removal and remedial work is being undertaken, undertaking fibre counting by optical microscopy and preparing accurate reports of their work in standard formats.

You should possess extensive knowledge and experience required in the asbestos industry, be self motivated with the ability to work on own initiative and work under pressure. Strong management, commercial and organisational skills are desired.

Biological Assay Dossier Scientist

Our client, an agrochemical company based in the West Midlands, is currently looking to recruit an experienced Biological Assay Dossier Scientist to join their team.

There is an option for this Biological Assay Dossier Scientist position to be home-based however the selected candidate will travel to the site in the West Midlands at least twice a month and when required.

The major responsibilities of this Biological Assay Dossier Scientist will include the following:

  • Producing biological assessment dossiers to support the agreed product strategy and European Union registration timetable in accordance with EU Directive 91/414.
  • Assessing scientific / biological data for each product within each country and identifying data gaps for the production of biological assessment dossiers.
  • Assessing, summarising and cataloging new studies performed to support the production of biological assessment dossiers.
  • Managing a biological database to provide efficient processing of data in main regulatory formats, principally as described by OECD.
  • Preparing reports on new studies conducted within the Product Development Group and providing practical assistance with laboratory or field studies where required.

The selected candidate for this Biological Assay Dossier Scientist position will possess or be familiar with the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree or PhD (or equivalent qualifications) in biology or agronomy;
  • Experience of preparation of biological assessment dossiers;
  • Ability to understand, interpret and assess biological data in order to write high quality biological assessment dossiers;
  • Computer literacy (MS Word, Excel and databases such as Access; dBText);
  • Experience in cataloguing and indexing data.
  • A broad crop protection background; practical field trials / glasshouse research and development experience.
  • Successful applicants will possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and will be familiar with quality systems such as GLP and ORETO.

Our client, an agrochemical company based in the West Midlands, is currently looking to recruit an experienced Entomologist to join their team. An enthusiastic, motivated and talented individual is required.

The roles and responsibilities of this Entomologist role are as follows:

  • Providing specialist scientific support and advice regarding insecticide and acaricide product development programmes.
  • These will be primarily within the EAME region, but also globally as required.
  • This will include screening of new compounds and mixtures, development and testing of new products, and providing technical support to other businesses within the company.
  • Liaison with other staff will be necessary in order to complete the development and introduction of new crop protection products in the region.
  • You will be involved in running the laboratory, glasshouse and field testing of insecticide and acaricide products will conduct regulatory studies in compliance with GLP.
  • You will maintain populations of key pests for use in testing programmes and will statistically analyse data generated and prepare concise technical reports to the highest quality standards.
  • When necessary you will also conduct and assist with in-vitro and whole organism fungicide, herbicide and plant growth regulator (PGR) studies in support of screening, product development and business support.
  • Preparation of risk assessments, COSHH assessments, arranging servicing and calibration of equipment, and maintaining high housekeeping standards in assigned work areas will also be your responsibility as well as liasing with customers and arranging site visits.
  • You will maintain a current awareness in entomology practices and will be responsible for designing studies and ensuring that they are conducted in accordance with standards that include EU Directive 93/71/EEC, EPPO guidelines and the OECD Principles of GLP.

To be considered for this Entomologist position you must have or be familiar with the following:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or PhD (or equivalent qualifications) in Entomology;
  • Considerable experience in the crop protection or public health industries;
  • A practical understanding of COSHH regulations and the use of PPE;
  • GLP standards;
  • Knowledge of insecticide and acaricide testing techniques;
  • Good working knowledge of pesticide application techniques and equipment;
  • NPTC pesticide application qualifications;
  • Knowledge of plant pathology and commercially important fungal diseases;
  • Ability to supervise and train staff;
  • Strong computer skills (MS Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint);
  • Proven project management skills.

Please note that prior industrial experience is essential for this position.

Biological Assay Dossier Scientist – West Midlands

An agrochemical company based in the West Midlands is currently looking to recruit an experienced Biological Assay Dossier Scientist to join their team.

There is an option for this position to be home-based however the selected candidate will travel to the site in the West Midlands at least twice a month and when required.

The major responsibilities of this Biological Assay Dossier Scientist will include the following:

  • Producing biological assessment dossiers to support the agreed product strategy and European Union registration timetable in accordance with EU Directive 91/414.
  • Assessing scientific / biological data for each product within each country and identifying data gaps for the production of biological assessment dossiers.
  • Assessing, summarising and cataloguing new studies performed to support the production of biological assessment dossiers.
  • Managing a biological database to provide efficient processing of data in main regulatory formats, principally as described by OECD.
  • Preparing reports on new studies conducted within the Product Development Group and providing practical assistance with laboratory or field studies where required.

The selected candidate for this Biological Assay Dossier Scientist position will possess or be familiar with the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree or PhD (or equivalent qualifications) in biology or agronomy;
  • Experience of preparation of biological assessment dossiers.
  • Ability to understand, interpret and assess biological data in order to write high quality Biological assessment dossiers.
  • Computer literacy (MS Word, Excel and databases such as Access; dBText); experience in cataloguing and indexing data.
  • A broad crop protection background; practical field trials / glasshouse research and development experience.
  • Successful applicants will possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and will be familiar with quality systems such as GLP and ORETO.

Our client is currently looking for a Technical Consultant to work at their site in the West Midlands. They are a leading independent plastics and rubber specialist organisation that provide research, technology and information services for polymer-related industries.

Working as a Technical Consultant, your main responsibilities will include:

  • Being responsible for timely and high quality delivery of project work.
  • Meeting personal key performance indicators on revenue, profit, cost, efficiency, quality and productivity.
  • Assisting with compliance of quality driven operational excellence.
  • Undertaking technical and financial project management of active project work and ensuring smooth transition from proposal to delivery to the client.
  • Responsible for the production of high quality and timely CTRs and assisting with the preparation of monthly reports on team activity.
  • Complying with schedules and assignment as defined by the Team Leader, assisting in identifying and marketing new business opportunities.

  • A degree (or equivalent) in a scientific subject or engineering
  • At least 15 years’ experience in a technical/commercial role
  • A minimum of five years’ experience in a consultancy role, experience of delivering training and presentations
  • Experience of technical report writing
  • Excellent communication and inter-personal skills
  • Previous experience in a customer facing role
  • Will be a team player

The chosen candidate for this Technical Consultant job will also hold significant knowledge of polymeric and/or composite materials, properties, testing and manufacture processes.  Support will be provided in areas such as materials selection, failure diagnosis and process trouble-shooting /optimisation.
