Victoria Walker promoted to Team Lead

Victoria Walker has been promoted to Team lead within CK Science based in the Chesterfield office.

Victoria will become a team coordinator, organising regular office activities such as liaising with marketing, regularly ensuring business development is on track and feeding back directly to the Office Manager. Vicki has been successfully building up to this role, overseeing the Chesterfield based science recruitment team.

With the expansion of the CK Science team based in Chesterfield, it is vital that there is someone directly overseeing them, a position which Vicki is more than capable of.

Laboratory Manager (Water) – Cambridgeshire

Andrew Bolton at CK Science is currently looking for a Laboratory Manager to join an industry leading Water Testing Laboratory at their site in Cambridgeshire on a full time, permanent basis.

Responsibilities:

As a Laboratory Manager, you will be responsible for leading a team within an Analytical Testing / Chemistry laboratory providing water testing services. Your duties will include:

  • Day-to-day people management of a medium sized (10 – 14 people) team of Technicians and Analysts including recruitment, training & personal development when required.
  • Ensuring sample turnaround including liaising closely with customers throughout the process.
  • Maintaining a hands on involvement in analytical testing using techniques such as ICP, GC, MS, AAS & a scope of wet chemistry, coupled with more specialist testing such as cryptosporidium analysis.
  • Performing method development and validation of equipment used.
  • Ensuring quality systems & documentation are maintained (ISO, DWI).

Qualifications and skills:

As a Laboratory Manager, you will have the following qualifications, skills & experience:

  • A qualification in Chemistry or a relevant discipline (or equivalent).
  • Demonstrated experience in an analytical testing laboratory. Specific experience in the Water industry would be highly advantageous, but it is not essential.
  • Proven people supervisory / team leader experience.

Welsh Water invest £1bn in renewable energy projects

The Guardian has reported that Welsh Water  has announced it will be spending £1billion on infrastructure projects in Herefordshire, Wales and Deeside over the next three years.

Welsh Water which is owned by not for profit Glas Cymru is upgrading its treatment works, rebuilding 22 of them, maintaining its networks of water mains and sewers and importantly investing more money into renewable energy projects.

The company, which has 2,000 employees, says its investment means jobs for a further 1,500 people.

The chairman of Welsh Water Bob Ayling said: “Our ambition is to deliver the best possible outcomes for our customers supplying drinking water of the highest quality and safeguarding the environment that we look after on behalf of the communities we serve.

Microbiological Operations Manager Job (Water Industry) – Northampton, UK

CK Science is currently searching for an Operations Manager with previous experience with Microbiology to join a successful water testing company based in Northampton, UK.

 

For this Microbiological Operations Manager role you will be responsible for the day to day running of the UKAS (ISO) accredited Microbiology Laboratory which includes the implementation and maintenance of ISO17025. You will also be involved in the implementation of new microbiological methods and training of staff.

The ideal candidate for this Microbiological Operations Manager will have a degree or equivalent in Microbiology or a related discipline. You will have extensive experience in laboratory management within a UKAS accredited environment and will have previous lab based experience within the microbiology industry. You will also have excellent communication skills and have the ability to prioritise.
