Organic Chemist (Fuel Cells) – ACAL Energy, Runcorn

ACAL Energy Ltd is the world’s leading developer of low cost Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) Fuel Cells systems, powered by ACAL Energy’s proprietary platinum free cathode technology (FlowCath).

Victoria Walker is now recruiting for an Organic Chemist to join the team at ACAL Energy based at their site in Runcorn, Cheshire.  They are currently working on an exclusive basis with CK Science for this recruitment campaign.

Responsibilities:

The job purpose of this organic chemist role will be to provide organic chemistry expertise and to play a leading role in the synthesis of next generation catalyst and mediator systems. You will be required to design, synthesise and evaluate next generation catalyst and mediator materials with improved performance.

The major challenges and key accountabilities of the role will be:

  • Identify and design target molecules to meet requirements for improved fuel cell performance.
  • Design and execute synthetic routes to target molecules, with consideration of commercial implications.
  • Fully characterise target molecules and conduct preliminary evaluation of properties.
  • Identify patent opportunities and assist with filing patents.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with relevant external sources of expertise.

Technical skills and knowledge required:

The successful candidate for this organic chemist role will have the following technical skills and knowledge:

  • Expertise in organic chemistry and practical chemical synthesis, with enthusiasm for laboratory working.
  • Educated to PhD level or equivalent in Organic Chemistry.
  • Considerable experience of research and development chemistry in the field of organic chemistry, with a significant proportion of this spent in an industrial setting, having demonstrated a significant input towards target selection and route design.
  • Proven ability to identify and design target materials fulfilling given criteria and design and execute practical synthetic routes to these.
  • Understanding of ligand design and coordination chemistry may be advantageous.
  • Demonstrable record of frequent and high quality publication in the form of patents and/or papers.
  • Competent user of literature searching tools.

Analytical Chemist – (ICP, HPLC) Scotland

Barney Smith is currently looking for an Analytical Chemist to join an analytical laboratory based in Scotland.

Responsibilities:

As an Analytical Chemist you will be responsible primarily for analysis of oil, gas and chemical samples using ICP, IC and HPLC.  You will also supervise staff, collect samples from sites and calibrate and validate instrumentation. 

Qualifications:

The successful candidate for this Analytical Chemist role must be qualified to minimum HNC/HND level in chemistry or related subject or possess equivalent industrial experience.  In addition, you will have a proven track record using the above instrumentation ideally in a supervisory role.

Electrochemist Role (Chemical) – Hertfordshire

Reena Dhana is currently looking for an Electrochemist to join an industry leading polymer chemical organisation to join their research & development team based in Hertfordshire.

Responsibilities:

As an Electrochemist, you will be involved in conducting exciting and industry changing research surrounding the development of polymer coating applications for use on various materials including metals. The role of Electrochemist will see you involved in exploring the electrochemical properties of the coatings as well as developing various plating technologies and applications for use in metal finishing such as electroplating.

Qualifications and Skills:

To be considered for this Electrochemist role, you will have a PhD in Electrochemistry or a related discipline (or equivalent) and demonstrated research experience gained in Academia or an industry environment. Specific experience of developing plating technologies for metal finishing would be advantageous.

Analytical Development Scientist Role – M4 corridor

Jason Johal is currently recruiting for a Senior Analytical Chemist to join a global pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical CMO based along the M4 Corridor and commutable from Oxfordshire.

Responsibilities:

The ideal candidate for this Senior Analytical Chemist role will provide analytical support to the development and manufacture of a wide range of dosage forms from early formulation studies and clinical trial manufacture to NDA registration. This role will be very varied and includes method development and validation, provision of support during formulation development and manufacture, release testing and stability studies.  The nature of the environment is fast paced. As such you would have a number of projects to work on at any one time spanning a diverse product, dosage form and client range. With this in mind good organisational skills are essential.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate for this Senior Analytical Chemist role must be qualified in Chemistry or a related subject (or equivalent) and previous laboratory experience, preferably in pharmaceutical analytical development is required. Proven experience in HPLC method development and validation are essential. Also the ideal candidate will have experience of working to cGLP / GMP and will have used the techniques as described above as well as GC, UV and dissolution techniques.
