Laboratory Manager (Water) – Cambridgeshire

Andrew Bolton at CK Science is currently looking for a Laboratory Manager to join an industry leading Water Testing Laboratory at their site in Cambridgeshire on a full time, permanent basis.

Responsibilities:

As a Laboratory Manager, you will be responsible for leading a team within an Analytical Testing / Chemistry laboratory providing water testing services. Your duties will include:

  • Day-to-day people management of a medium sized (10 – 14 people) team of Technicians and Analysts including recruitment, training & personal development when required.
  • Ensuring sample turnaround including liaising closely with customers throughout the process.
  • Maintaining a hands on involvement in analytical testing using techniques such as ICP, GC, MS, AAS & a scope of wet chemistry, coupled with more specialist testing such as cryptosporidium analysis.
  • Performing method development and validation of equipment used.
  • Ensuring quality systems & documentation are maintained (ISO, DWI).

Qualifications and skills:

As a Laboratory Manager, you will have the following qualifications, skills & experience:

  • A qualification in Chemistry or a relevant discipline (or equivalent).
  • Demonstrated experience in an analytical testing laboratory. Specific experience in the Water industry would be highly advantageous, but it is not essential.
  • Proven people supervisory / team leader experience.

As a Laboratory Manager, you will be joining a specialist Water Testing Laboratory who provide a supportive culture with a keenness on personal development. In return they offer a salary of between £30,000 – £35,000 plus excellent benefits including 26 days holiday, pension, private healthcare and a competitive bonus scheme.

Project Engineer Job (Mechanical, Medical Devices) – Cambridgeshire, UK

CK Science is currently helping a world leading Medical Device Consultancy to recruit a Project Engineer to join their state-of-the-art facilities in Cambridgeshire. This fantastic company develops a range of technologies for their customers in the Pharmaceutical, Biotechnology and Medical Devices industries.

Responsibilities:

As a Project Engineer, your main responsibilities will include leading multi-disciplinary teams on projects within the drug delivery, diagnostic and other medical technology applications. Further duties of this role will include:

  • Working closely with customers to identify and design technical product or system solutions and in turn producing proposals to meet their requirements
  • Leading design engineering including hands on use of 3D CAD to produce designs of components, systems or products
  • Working closely with 3rd party suppliers for transfer of project to manufacture as well as managing technical documentation relating to the project.

 

Person specification:

To be considered for this Project Engineer role, you will have the following skills, qualifications and experience:

  • Degree / MSc / PhD in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)
  • Demonstrated experience of both project management and hands on engineering for technology applications including knowledge of manufacturing processes (one off design or volume)
  • Experience using 3D CAD (pref. Pro-E or Solid Works)
  • Specific experience in the medical device industry would be advantageous but it is not essential.

Senior Chemist Job (Biosensor, Medical Device) – Cambridgeshire, UK

Our client, an industry leading Medical Device Diagnostic organisation, are currently looking for a Senior Chemist to join their Research & Development Team based from their site in Cambridgeshire.

Responsibilities:

As a Senior Chemist, you will be responsible for project management of a multi-disciplinary project team involved in research into novel glucose biosensor technology for use in various diagnostic and point-of-care diagnostic applications.

Your duties will be split between people management of a team of Scientists & Engineers and hands on aspects including conceptualisation & design of the optical grating based sensors; conducting studies to devise methods of manufacture at lab scale as well as development of prototypes and test rigs in order to carry out verification, validation and test of sensor designs and method of manufacture.

This is an outstanding opportunity to join an innovative and industry leading Medical Device Diagnostic organisation, which are at the forefront of development in novel biosensor technology.

Qualifications and Experience:

To be considered for this Senior Chemist role, you will have a BSc / MSc / PhD in a Chemistry, Materials or Physical Science discipline (or equivalent) and proven practical experience in a product development function of medical device technology including demonstrated project management / people supervisory experience and working knowledge of polymer coatings & materials used in optical technology. Technical Support Specialist Job (Flow Cytometry) – Cambridgeshire, UK

Our client, a world leading Instrumentation Manufacturer specialising in Flow Cytometry equipment, is currently in a state of rapid growth and as a result are currently looking for two Technical Support Specialists to join their state-of-the-art facilities based in Cambridgeshire, UK.

One  Technical Support Specialist will be responsible for a patch covering the UK, Ireland, Germany & Austria, with the other specialist responsible for the Nordic regions.

Working as a  Technical Support Specialist, you will be responsible for providing high quality 1st line technical support to customers over phone and email surrounding the operation & maintenance of the organisation’s range of Flow Cytometry equipment; provide training & seminars to customers during installation and during initial operation for new customers as well as providing follow up & technical support after sale. As well as these duties, you may also be required to work in the lab to troubleshoot  customer problems, propose solutions and if required work closely with development team to implement long term products changes to correct problems.

This is an outstanding opportunity to join an industry leading Flow Cytometry equipment manufacturer who supply instruments to clients across the Life Science & Biotechnology industries. Due to the nature of the roles, regular travel of up to 33% of the time will be required within related patches – A full driving licence is essential.

To be considered for this Technical Support Specialist role, you will have a Degree / MSc / PhD in Immunology or a relevant Life Science discipline (or equivalent) and proven practical laboratory experience using Flow Cytometry instruments in the fields of Immunology, Cell Biology or a related field. Fluency in written & spoken English as well as either German or Swedish is essential. Knowledge of other European languages such as Dutch, French, Finnish, Italian or Spanish would be advantageous but are not essential.

Instrumentation Technician Job (Temporary) – Cambridgeshire, UK

Our Client is a leading Biotechnology company looking for a temporary Instrumentation Technician to join their team based in Cambridgeshire.

 

Responsibilities:

Your main responsibility will be evaluating the cause of instrumentation equipment breakdowns within the laboratories. As part of the role you will either perform any necessary repairs on the equipment and/or coordinate with external service providers.

Previous experience with fault finding, calibrating or repairing laboratory equipment such as HPLC, GC, PCR, SDS-Page, ELISA is essential. Prior experience of fault finding of electro-mechanical systems to a component level would be advantageous howevernot essential. Our client, is a leading global biotechnology company based in the Cambridgeshire/Suffolk area, looking for a Senior Quality Assurance Officer to join their QA team.

As Senior QA Officer, you will be responsible for reviewing documentation in accordance to in-house specifications as well as cGMP. You will also provide QA advice for deviation investigation, root causing and change management. Part of the role will include internal auditing and supervision of less experienced staff.

To be successful for this Senior QA Officer role you will have a BSc in a scientific discipline (or equivalent). Previous experience with deviation investigation, batch release of API and dealing with customer complaints is essential. Experience in auditing or documentation review within a Quality Management System is also essential.

Clinical Laboratory Supervisor Required for Clinical Laboratory based in Cambridge, UK

Our client is a dynamic, highly specialised, and rapidly growing clinical laboratory which provides sample accessioning and laboratory testing. They are currently looking for a Clinical Laboratory Supervisor to join their team based in Cambridge, UK. As Laboratory Supervisor you will supervise a team that is responsible for sample accessioning and antibody testing within the Clinical Specialty Laboratory in Cambridge.

You will report to Laboratory Manager, based in the US and your responsibilities will include:

  • Entering sample data from commercial registry programs and clinical trial programs in a specialised laboratory information system.
  • Supervise analytical testing for clinical studies
  • Monitor laboratory efficiencies and quality as they relate to sample receipt,
  • Database entry and reagent inventory.

As Clinical Laboratory Supervisor will also be responsible for shipping samples for testing to sites in the US and other CRO sites. You may be required to travel to other sites mainly based in the US and Europe as required. This position will require contact with a variety of sites including hospitals, reference laboratories, doctor’s offices, doctors and nurses.

The ideal candidate for this position will be educated to a Bachelor of Science degree level along with in-depth experience working in a clinical laboratory. Knowledge in laboratory regulatory standards, accessioning and immunoassay and ELISA testing as well as experience in supervising staff in a clinical setting.

Our client is a global Pharmaceutical company based in Cambridge. They are looking for a Senior QA Officer to act as a liaison between the company plants and contractors for bulk and components supplied by the plants to the contractors.

As a Senior QA Officer, your key role will be to modify, audit and ensure contractor quality standards and protocol for processing material into finished product. You will also be involved in conducting contractor quality assurance audits and coordinating the development of documentation for the contractor manual.
