CK Group are recruiting for a Thin Film Scientist to join a energy development company at their facility located in Surrey on an initial 6 month contract.

The Company:

Our client is an energy development business who are focussed on next-generation fuel cell development and commercialisation.


Over £35,000 up to £45,000 per annum


This Thin Film Scientist role will be located in Surrey. .

Thin Film Scientist Role:

Your main duties will be:

  • Develop thin film processes to advance energy materials development of metal supported solid oxide cells.
  • Deliver improved materials processes for the formation of thin metal oxide films.
  • Develop an understanding ofof physical and chemical processes involved.
  • Work as part of a team that will manufacture prototypes of next generation technology.

Your Background:

The ideal candidate for this role will have the following qualifications, skills and experience:

  • PhD or Masters in Materials Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineer or related subject.
  • Scientific knowledge in solution and organometallic chemistry, sol-gels, colloids, colloidal stabilisation, rare earth and transition metals.
  • Thin-film processing techniques. i.e. spin coating, dip coating, jetting, screen printing.
  • Experience with materials characterisation techniques. For example, NMR, FT-IR, UV-VIS, SEM with EDS/WDX, XRD, PSD, STA/DTA, BET, dilatometry, FIB-SEM, XRF, ACIS/EIS, electrochemical testing, indentation and mechanical properties testing, 3D tomography, SIMS, ICP-MS.
  • Working knowledge of electro-ceramics, fuel cells and electrochemistry.
