CK Group are recruiting for a Principal Scientist to join the Mammalian Cell Culture team of a multinational Biopharmaceutical company, to be based at their site in Billingham on a permanent basis.

This role is laboratory-based and, working as part of a team, will be involved in Process Development activities from lab scale bioreactors through to 200L demonstration scale as well as supporting with biologics manufacturing processes. You will play a key role in contributing to the implementation of new and innovative ways of working.


  1. To identify, design, implement and manage experiments
  2. To review experimental work, data and reports produced within R&D to ensure accuracy and compliance
  3. To produce well written, compliant and traceable laboratory notebooks and raw data files
  4. To prepare reports and presentations for internal and external use in a suitable and professional manner.
  5. To train and supervise the experimental work of other research staff6. To be able to communicate to senior management and peers results, decisions, suitability and efficacy of the PD processes with rationale
  6. To understand / be able to investigate any IP implications of processes being developed
  7. To understand basic capabilities / limitations of the Cell Banking Facility and Mammalian Cell Culture manufacturing
  8. To co-ordinate work with other functions / departments to achieve project objectives
  9. To represent the department in cross functional meetings, maintaining awareness of the department / companies best interests as appropriate

To be considered for the position you should have the following skills and experience: Experience of the operation and control of stirred tank, laboratory and large scale (1- 200L) mammalian cell culture bioreactors Experience with high throughput cell line screening technologies, such as the ambrâ„¢ systems Knowledge of cGMP manufacturing Experience of mammalian cell culture, preferably in a biotech/pharmaceutical industry setting
