Chemist or Comedian?

On the BBC’s Today Programme today, 25 January 2008, comedian Eddie Izzard, in a discussion about whether there are national barriers to humour, admitted that he only discovered he could make people laugh because of his A level Chemistry teacher, who had a habit of always leaving his sentences unfinished. Eddie took great pleasure in finishing his sentences for him, to the amusement of the rest of the class, and swears that’s where he developed his comedy technique. He also admitted it made him very popular with the girls, at which point John Humphreys made the sort of comment you do not expect to hear on Radio 4 at 8am. Listen again?
