R&D Director – London

Julie Marshall at CK Science is currently recruiting for an R&D Director to join a Global Food and Beverage Organisation based in London. This is an 8 months contract on a full time basis.

Responsibilities

As an R&D Director you will be:

  • Ensuring a high level of internal and external awareness and understanding of the Consumer Healthcare through development and execution of comprehensive education, marketing and communication initiatives.
  • Implementing systems and processes to provide timely monitoring of key relationships and alliances in an effort to establish the company as the Partner of Choice in innovative technologies deals.
  • Developing and proactively leads internal and external processes, systems and programs to ensure that potential innovative technologies and ideas are solicited, captured, reviewed and acted upon.
  • Maintaining strong relationships with the network of key vendors, partners, and potential partners working with these groups to resolve conflict, addresses concerns, and facilitate the navigation of the companies system, processes, policy, procedures, departments and people.
  • Working closely with NPR to stimulate activity and aggressively screen innovative technology opportunities.
  • Working closely with BD on the various aspects of the in licensing process.

Qualifications

The successful R&D Director will have the following qualifications, skills & experiences:

  • A degree or equivalent in Science, Technology, Engineering or a related discipline
  • Extensive experience in the Beverages industry is essential
  • Demonstrated negotiation and project management skills
  • Demonstrated collaborative work style, team player and strategic relationship builder
  • Experience of developing contracts and negotiation and deal making particularly in an R&D setting
  • High level of knowledge of the product development cycle, including all aspects of R&D
  • Ability to develop robust education and training program

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will work as part of a small team responsible for applying and developing tools for use by project teams working to discover new medicines

You will be responsible for the following:

  • Liaising with scientific contacts, identifing technical solutions and partner with local and global informatics teams to deliver projects. 
  • Providing advanced technical expertise and systems integration in supporting existing informatics tools and in developing and deploying new tools. 
  • You must be able to analyse, model and optimise workflows, develop and use best practices, and must have applied technical abilities. 
  • The application and refinement of existing protocols to aid in generation of focused compound libraries. 
  • The development of novel protocols and implementation of chemoinformatics techniques to improve selection processes.
  • The analysis and interpretation of large data-sets related to chemistry, biology and biochemistry using existing methodology.
  • The development and implementation of tools and interfaces to support our Drug Discovery project teams.

Qualifications and skills:

The successful Chemoinformatician will have the following qualifications, skills & experiences:

  • Good basic knowledge of Organic Chemistry (BSc in Chemistry (or equivalent) is preferred, in particular small molecule physico-chemical properties, conformation and interactions
  • Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of computational chemistry and chemoinformatics methodologies including but not limited to: library design, data triage, multivariate data analysis, QSAR.
  • Experience with chemistry software and pipelining tools is essential, with expertise in Pipeline Pilot and MOE highly preferred.
  • Practical experience of data analysis, data management and data mining/integration in a chemical environment.
  • Strong linux and windows skills.
  • Experience of working in a chemoinformatics role within a pharmaceutical or biotech environment would be desirable.

Hazpack Chemist – West Midlands

Victoria Walker at CK Science is recruiting for a Hazpack Chemist to join a waste management company based in the West Midlands on a full time, permanent basis.

Responsibilities

As a Hazpack Chemist, the main purpose of your role will be to efficiently receive, process and despatch incoming wastes through a hazardous waste treatment and transfer facility.  Paramount to the role is that waste is assessed and handled in an approved manner ensuring Health, Safety and Environmental compliance are met whilst demonstrating continuous improvement in productivity, plant availability and the quality of materials produced.

Further responsibilities of this Hazpack Chemist will include:

  • Hazardous waste packing
  • Visiting customer’s sites
  • Identifying, sampling and sorting waste materials into different hazard categories for onward disposal
  • Liaising with our sales and technical departments to ensure completion
  • When not off-site, required to provide active support in Transfer Station with waste acceptance and dispatch
  • Support sales staff by sourcing and providing disposal costs.

Qualifications

As a Hazpack Chemist, you will have the following qualifications, skills and experience:

  • HNC or equivalent Chemistry qualification as a minimum (with GCSE or equivalent in Maths & English – essential)
  • Experience in the waste management industry – essential
  • Full, clean driving license – essential
  • Willingness to travel within the UK for business meetings and project work at other locations including overnight stays from time to time – essential
  • IT literate – comfortable using business software and systems
  • Good time management skills; organised with the ability to simplify complex issues
  • Analytical with the ability to measure & monitor data and take appropriate corrective action
  • Able to able to communicate at all levels, both in verbal & written form
  • Industrial experience in chemical waste handling
  • Knowledge of environmental legislation
  • Good communication, analytical and time keeping skills are essential.
  • IOSH or other safety qualifications desired
  • Management training or qualifications desired
  • Hazardous treatment & Transfer CoTC desired
  • Writing SOPs & risk assessments desired
  • Knowledge of existing and impending environmental and health and safety legislation desired
  • Legal requirements for transferring non / hazardous waste & knowledge of recycling processes & outlets

As Hazpack Chemist you will be working with a waste management company based in the West Midlands.

  • There is a primary requirement for travel within the UK for work at other locations including customer premises, including overnight stays from time to time
  • Although generally operating in the Midlands, flexible working is required as you may occasionally be working Nationwide depending on the size of the job and other sites’ staff cover.
  • This is a response-based role and hours are unlikely to be standard 9-5.

QA Service Provider Strategy – Hertfordshire

Jason Johal at CK Science is currently recruiting for a QA Service Provider Strategy Lead to join one of the world’s leading research-focused healthcare groups for at their Hertfordshire site on a full time, permanent basis.

This role monitors activities outsourced to Service Providers through periodic risk assessment, risk-based routine audits and provides ongoing support to mitigating actions. It also provides actionable data to Senior Procurement/Outsourcing functional management based on analysis of data (audit/inspection/risk) and identification of trends.

Responsibilities

Joining the international Product Development Quality Assurance (PDQA) team, this position will be assigned to the Laboratory service category (GLP, GCP). Reporting to the Principal Team Lead for Service Provider QA Strategy the ideal candidate will be responsible for the design and implementation of the Service Provider risk management and audit strategy across the GLP, GCP, GPVP areas. The role works in partnership with Procurement/Outsourcing Functions and the PDQA GLP, GCP, PV Strategy Leads to ensure that Risk Assessments are maintained across the inventory of Service Providers engaged globally (gRED, pRED, PD, GPS/gMED) and at Affiliate Level.

As QA Service Provider Strategy Lead you will:

  • Design and implement the PDQA Service Provider risk-based strategy for risk management and audit activities
  • Define/maintain the “audit/risk universe” of Service Providers based on input from Procurement/Outsourcing functions and PDQA GxP Strategy Leads
  • Partner closely with the GxP Strategy Leads, Procurement/Outsourcing Functions to ensure that risk assessments are maintained for Service Providers to determine which audits will be conducted and where risk mitigation activities should occur.
  • Develop and implement a GxP risk based strategy to deliver an audit program and quality oversight model for service providers within service category areas.
  • Assess specific risk areas on an on-going basis, communicate to PDQA senior leadership and propose modifications to PDQA strategy where necessary
  • Assess data/metrics from audits, inspections and risk management activities for compliance trends and risks
  • Develop communication tools (reports/dashboards) for audit and inspection metrics and trends
  • Support regulatory authority GCP inspections at service providers

Qualifications

The successful QA Service Provider Strategy Lead will have the following qualifications, skills & experiences:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a scientific or quality related field or equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • Extensive experience in the pharmaceutical industry and/or quality assurance with excellent knowledge of a GLP or Pharmacovigilance Service Provider Quality role
  • Demonstrated knowledge of GLP, GCP, CSV, PV / drug safety and regulatory requirements
  • Project management experience with proven leadership, mentoring and coaching skills
  • Experience supporting Service Provider sourcing initiatives and/or representing QA on Service Provider Strategic Alliance or Category governance teams

Laboratory Manager – Cumbria

Barney Smith at CK Science is recruiting for a laboratory manager to work in a permanent position for a large analytical laboratory based in Cumbria.

Responsibilities

The Laboratory Manager will be in charge of a large team of microbiologists and laboratory supervisors and will be responsible for throughput of all samples within agreed time scales. This will involve ensuring all work is carried out to UKAS and associated quality system requirements, staff training and development, arranging regular meetings with supervisory staff and working directly with customers providing feedback and ensuring high quality customer care.

Qualifications

For the Laboratory Manager role you must have a proven track record as a microbiologist within a food analysis laboratory and have some supervisory experience. You must also be familiar with UKAS, BRC and related quality systems and have some experience or knowledge of LIMS.  Entitlement to work in the UK is essential.

Operations Manager – Aberdeen

Barney Smith at CK Science is recruiting for an Operations Manager to run a Waste Management facility in Aberdeen. The role is permanent and may involve covering two sites at times.

 Responsibilities

For the Operations Manager role you will be responsible for a team of site chemists, hazpack chemists and Senior Site Chemists. You will also be responsible for:

  • Administration support team and mud and effluent plant staff
  • Ensuring that all site operations run in a safe, efficient and cost effective manner
  • Delivering excellent customer service,
  • Developing effective relationships
  • Providing opportunities to increase revenue
  • Managing all aspects of waste management operations including procedures and quality systems, staff training and management and business strategy.

 Qualifications

For the Operations Manager role, you must have a proven track record in the waste industry in a supervisory or managerial role. You must also hold a minimum HNC in chemistry in order to fulfil IPPC legal requirements and hold a full UK driving licence. A COTC qualification is desirable although not essential.

 Responsibilities

As Administration Assistant the main purpose of your role will be to provide full administration support to the Chesterfield office. This will include:

  • Handling incoming telephone calls
  • Greeting visiting clients and candidates
  • Managing all CV administration
  • Data input on our in-house database
  • General administration duties such as ordering stationery, filing, taking and distributing messages whilst working within company administration and quality procedures.

Qualifications
