Budget 2011: Increase of £100 million in Funding

As announced today, the government will be injecting an additional £100 million into scientific research in the UK.

“The Government will invest an additional £100 million in 2011-12 in science capital development to provide facilities for the commercialisation of research, accommodation for innovative SMEs and new research capabilities,” read the budget.

As well as this extra funding, plans for a ‘technology and innovation centre’ have also been revealed. This centre will conduct it’s own research and bring together work from institutions based in Rotherham, Coventry, Strathclyde, Sedgefield, Redcar and Bristol.
