Victoria Walker at CK Science is recruiting for a Hazpack Chemist to join a waste management company based in the West Midlands on a full time, permanent basis.
Responsibilities
As a Hazpack Chemist, the main purpose of your role will be to efficiently receive, process and despatch incoming wastes through a hazardous waste treatment and transfer facility. Paramount to the role is that waste is assessed and handled in an approved manner ensuring Health, Safety and Environmental compliance are met whilst demonstrating continuous improvement in productivity, plant availability and the quality of materials produced.
Further responsibilities of this Hazpack Chemist will include:
- Hazardous waste packing
- Visiting customer’s sites
- Identifying, sampling and sorting waste materials into different hazard categories for onward disposal
- Liaising with our sales and technical departments to ensure completion
- When not off-site, required to provide active support in Transfer Station with waste acceptance and dispatch
- Support sales staff by sourcing and providing disposal costs.
Qualifications
As a Hazpack Chemist, you will have the following qualifications, skills and experience:
- HNC or equivalent Chemistry qualification as a minimum (with GCSE or equivalent in Maths & English – essential)
- Experience in the waste management industry – essential
- Full, clean driving license – essential
- Willingness to travel within the UK for business meetings and project work at other locations including overnight stays from time to time – essential
- IT literate – comfortable using business software and systems
- Good time management skills; organised with the ability to simplify complex issues
- Analytical with the ability to measure & monitor data and take appropriate corrective action
- Able to able to communicate at all levels, both in verbal & written form
- Industrial experience in chemical waste handling
- Knowledge of environmental legislation
- Good communication, analytical and time keeping skills are essential.
- IOSH or other safety qualifications desired
- Management training or qualifications desired
- Hazardous treatment & Transfer CoTC desired
- Writing SOPs & risk assessments desired
- Knowledge of existing and impending environmental and health and safety legislation desired
- Legal requirements for transferring non / hazardous waste & knowledge of recycling processes & outlets
As Hazpack Chemist you will be working with a waste management company based in the West Midlands.
- There is a primary requirement for travel within the UK for work at other locations including customer premises, including overnight stays from time to time
- Although generally operating in the Midlands, flexible working is required as you may occasionally be working Nationwide depending on the size of the job and other sites’ staff cover.
- This is a response-based role and hours are unlikely to be standard 9-5.

Victoria Walker at CK Science is recruiting for an XRF Spectrometrist Manager to join an analytical service provider to the metals and minerals industry, based in Merseyside on a full time, permanent basis.
Responsibilities:
As an XRF Spectrometrist Manager the main purpose of your role will be to take a leading role in the day-to-day management of 3 modern spectrometers and a staff base of 12.
Further responsibilities of this XRF Spectrometrist Manager will include:
- Supporting research and development projects in support of X-Ray services to the Group as a whole
- Occasional travel to the Group’s overseas Laboratories on X-Ray related issues is a possibility.
- Working with PANalytical Axios wavelength spectrometers
- Calibration and internal standardization of equipment
Qualifications:
As an XRF Spectrometrist Manager, you will have the following qualifications, skills and experience:
- Accomplished X-Ray Fluorescence Spectrometrist; A good understanding of wavelength & energy dispersive X-Ray practice and theory
- Expertise related to the analysis of metals and minerals by wavelength & energy dispersive X-Ray techniques
- Experience with PANalytical Axios wavelength spectrometers would be an advantage
- A good understanding of fluxing and fused glass bead techniques
- A good understanding of calibration and internal standardization principles
- A good understanding of instrument performance monitoring and QC control
- Be capable of demonstrating a proven track record in X-Ray spectrometry
- Be familiar with the requirements of ISO 17025:2005 accreditation systems
- Good interpersonal and management skills

Site Chemist Job Description:
As a Site Chemist, the main purpose of your role will be to work in conjunction with the Site Manager running a busy Transfer Station.
Responsibilities:
- Arranging Outgoing and Incoming Loads if required
- Working with other site Chemists and operatives in the yard bulking and palletising loads
- Adhering to Company procedures as set out
- Stock Control as set out by P.P.C Permit
- All H&S issues for staff reporting to the Site Manager
- Daily inspections, logs, and signage in the transfer station
- Cover for other Chemists during holidays
- Preparing reports for the Site Manager
- Liaising with Group Transport for any requirements
- Completing all paperwork required
- Working with all regulations set out by the HSE, EA and any other regulatory board
- Dealing with all Non Conforming Loads as set out in Procedures
Qualifications, Skills and Experience Required:
As a Site Chemist, you will have the following qualifications, skills and experience:
- Degree or equivalent in Chemistry ideally, HND or equivalent in chemistry as a minimum
- Driving Licence – essential requirement
- A good command of the English language
- WAMITAB C.O.T.C Level 4 in Transfer and Treatment Hazardous Wastes – advantageous
- Computer Literate
- Fork Lift Licence advantageous
- IOSH or NEBOSH H&S Qualification advantageous
- Experience working in a busy Hazardous Waste Transfer Station required (or within QC as a minimum)
Useful Information:
As Site Chemist you will be working with a hazardous waste and environmental company based in Worcestershire.
- Normal Working Hours will be 0800-1700
- Extra Hours may be required in order to complete the job.
- HND chemistry is a minimum requirement to be considered for this role
- A valid driving licence is an essential requirement for this role

- Reporting to the Technical Team Leader
- Responsible for developing new product designs and implementing their scale up through to commercial production.
- As a good communicator and team player you will have a key role in helping direct cross functional project groups establish specifications with both prospective customers and suppliers.
- You will take the products from conception in the lab through to commercialisation on the manufacturing plant.
- Encompassing a mixture of development and process engineering work
This role will be on a day basis however flexibility is a must as trials may run into the night or over weekends.

Victoria Walker at CK Science is recruiting for a Shift Process Technician to join a manufacturer of various insulation products based in the East Midlands.
Responsibilities:
The main roles and responsibilities for this Shift Process Technician will be day to day running of various production lines. You will:
- Ensure all operators are fully trained on how to run the lines and will be responsible for carrying out chemical trials on the production line.
- See chemicals through to full scale production and will be responsible for carrying out trials on the production line.
- Monitor the effect on the finished board including physical test results, fit for use, blisters etc. and will complete relevant paperwork as necessary.
- As well as calibration of equipment, you will liaise with the production supervisors and team leaders where necessary to ensure that all areas are kept tidy and free from build up.
- Assist the technical department in preparing samples as required.
Please note that this will be a shift role working days, afternoons and possibly nights on a rotational basis and therefore flexibility is a must.
Qualifications and skills:
In order to be considered for this Shift Process Technician role you will:
- Ideally be educated to degree level or equivalent in chemistry or a related subject such as polymer science, with A Level (or equivalent) Chemistry as a bare minimum.
- If not, you will have gained industrial experience in a similar environment and will be familiar with activities such as maintaining and reducing wet density; maintaining and reducing levels of XXR and scrap; running correct line speeds; decreasing levels of downtime etc.
- With excellent communication skills and good computer knowledge, you will possess an excellent attention to detail.

Vicki’s client, a manufacturer of urethane formulated systems, is recruiting for an Area Sales Manager to cover the South of the UK (including South Wales and Essex).
Responsibilities:
The main roles and responsibilities of this Area Sales Manager will be to sell its technically advanced structural adhesives, coatings, and binders systems to UK industrial users and installers. There will be the opportunity for a certain amount of account management and you will be involved in customer trials/ demonstrations, operating effectively at all levels within the customers’ structure. You will also be required to provide technical support to the existing customer base, and report weekly to the company’s head office in theWest Midlands.
The ideal candidate:
To be considered for this Area Sales Manager position, you will hold a 2:1 or above in a Science based degree or equivalent, preferably in Chemistry/ Material Science (Polymers). You will be able to demonstrate the ability to successfully sell technically advanced products to industrial users and will have a background in technical service or commercial sales. Experience of selling formulated chemical systems would be a distinct advantage or a candidate with experience in a technical role with some customer support who is now looking to move into technical sales.

Victoria Walker at CK Science is recruiting for Project Scientist to join ACAL Energy. ACAL Energy Ltd is the world’s leading developer of low cost Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) Fuel Cells systems, powered by ACAL Energy’s proprietary platinum free cathode technology (FlowCath).
Based in Runcorn, Cheshire, they are now recruiting for a Project Scientist to join their Chemistry team to work in the area of Polyoxometalate Chemistry, and are currently working on an exclusive basis with CK Science for this recruitment campaign.
Job purpose:
To design, synthesise, evaluate and deliver new catalyst and mediator materials based on inorganic cluster compounds and associative structures which improve the performance of the ACAL Energy FlowCath technology.
Major challenges:
- To deliver catalyst and mediator materials based on inorganic cluster/associative structures which display improved performance in the ACAL Energy fuel cell and meet product and market needs.
- To identify suitable materials for catalyst and/or mediator roles and design and execute synthetic routes to these species.
- To characterise target materials and evaluate performance, particularly in relation to electrochemical and catalytic properties.
Key accountabilities:
- Deliver catalyst and/or mediator materials based on inorganic cluster/associative structures which display improved performance in the ACAL fuel cell.
- Apply chemical knowledge and understanding to identify and design target materials to meet criteria.
- Design and execute synthetic routes to target materials, with consideration of commercial implications.
- Complete COSHH and risk assessments for all experimental work and conduct work in a safe manner at all times.
- Fully characterise target materials.
- Evaluate performance related properties of catalyst and mediator materials, in particular by assessing electrochemical and catalytic properties.
- Produce high quality written technical reports and present results and findings at regular intervals.
- Identify patent opportunities arising from the work undertaken.
- Liaise with internal fuel cell test team to demonstrate the fuel cell performance of lead materials.
- Take responsibility for delivering agreed project outputs and contribute to the delivery of the key objectives for the Chemistry team and the company.
Technical skills and knowledge:
- Knowledge and understanding of inorganic chemistry
- Competency in practical inorganic synthesis, with experience of inorganic cluster/association complex synthesisin aqueous solution preferred
- Ability and enthusiasm for laboratory working
- Experience and understanding of electrochemical kinetics and/or catalysis is preferred
- Competent user of literature searching tools
- Broad chemical understanding for the rational design of target materials
- Logical approach to problem solving and decision making
- Creative approach for the generation of chemical solutions
Personal skills and attributes:
- Must be a team player with good communication and affiliativeskills to build strong internal relationships
- Results oriented and standards driven, focused on delivery
- Commercially aware; understanding what they are trying to achieve and to have a degree of entrepreneurialism
