Project Leader Job (Process & Materials Research) – Yorkshire, UK

Our client, a manufacturer of materials and textiles for the flooring industry, is currently looking for a Project Leader to investigate their process and materials research at their site based in Yorkshire, UK.

Commutable from the North West of England as well as Yorkshire and possibly the East Midlands, this Project Leader role is available now and offers a competitive salary.

Roles and Responsibilities:

The main purpose of this Project Leader will be to introduce, develop and improve products and processes from a cost, performance, energy efficiency and environmental sustainability standpoint. This will be in order to benefit internal and external customers and to support the company’s mission to reduce their environmental impact.

The Project Leader will be responsible for the following:

  • Sourcing, evaluating and specifying raw materials (for precoating, backing and bonding processes) to meet cost, performance and sustainability targets;
  • Specifying optimal process settings to ensure highest product quality and performance;
  • Providing general production support and documentation for new products and processes;
  • Contributing to the development of processes and products to ensure the appropriate technical performance; providing specifications for the above;
  • Innovating in relation to materials, processes and products.

This role will be mainly based at the location indicated however you will be occasionally responsible for travelling to and overseeing Process and Materials Research at two other sites located overseas.

Person Specification:

To be considered for this Project Leader role you will have a degree or equivalent in chemistry, materials science or chemical engineering.

Able to show your competency in a practical, hands on environment gained from industrial research & development (chemical manufacturing or materials science industry) you will ideally have experience of textiles and composite manufacturing as well as an interest in the environment.

Multidisciplinary project management experience would be advantageous. You will be committed to the achievement and maintenance of quality and will set high standards of performance. You will drive projects to get results, ensuring that key objectives are met.

Breaking away from tradition, you will come up with new and imaginative ideas as well as identifying fresh approaches.

An influential person, the Project Leader will demonstrate a detailed knowledge and expertise in relation to the job and will keep up to date in specialist areas.

Intertek to Open Testing Laboratory in Korea

Scientific researchThe worldwide group of, testing laboratories Intertek has announced that it will be opening its first consumer goods testing laboratory for textiles, apparel and soft home furnishing in Seongsu-dong, Seoul, Korea.

Intertek have stated that the establishment of the laboratory came about in direct response to an increase in demand from customers in the region, including textile manufacturers, suppliers and exporters, for efficient, cost-effective quality and safety testing to enable them to meet increasingly stringent international standards and regulations.

The new laboratory provides innovative services, including fibre identification, feather and down testing, flammability, care label instruction, performance testing and eco-textile certification. In addition to testing services, Intertek’s Korea laboratory also offers consultation and training services.

It  is strategically positioned close to the manufacturing sites and customers’ buying offices – this will allow the company to respond to the ever-changing textile and apparel regulations, as well as global industry standards.
