Molecular Biologist (Biotechnology) – Cambridge, UK

A Molecular Biologist is required to join the Technology Group of a Research organisation based in Cambridge, UK.

The ideal candidate for this Molecular Biologist job will be educated to PhD, or equivalent in Molecular Biology, Immunology or a similar scientific discipline. You will be involved in the management of transgenic mouse lines, with experience of cell assays, cell/tissue culture, and ideally FACs analysis would be an advantage. You will use your Molecular Biologist to support a number of core projects.

As Senior Process Technologist your role will involve:

  • The introduction of new products
  • Prioritising plant preparation and start up activities
  • The allocation of tasks to members of the production team

  • Acting as a focal point for process performance issues

Research Biochemist based in the North East of England

Our client is a contract R&D and manufacturing Biopharmaceutical Company based in the North East of England and they require a number of Research Biochemists at different levels to join their downstream purification project team. Positions are available on both a temporary and permanent basis.

Working as a Research Biochemist, you will work as part of a multi-disciplinary project team and be responsible for developing and scaling up processes and supporting their transfer to cGMP manufacture.

To be considered for these Research Biochemist roles, you must have a degree in a biochemistry related subject or equivalent experience and some experience of working in a commercial biotechnology environment. Technical knowledge and practical experience of protein purification techniques including primary harvesting, column chromatography and filtration would be beneficial. Entitlement to work in the UK is essential.

300 Science Jobs to be Created in Norfolk, UK

Thirty new laboratories and offices for 300 research scientists are to be built in Norfolk with a £5m investment fund.

The fund of £5m has been provided by the following companies:

  • Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) will provide £500,000
  • The East of England Development Agency £1.4m
  • Greater Norwich Development Partnership £1m
  • The University of East Anglia £500,000
  • The remainder will come from other Norwich Research Park partners

The aim of the scheme is to attract new science companies to the area and is the first stage of a plan to create 5,000 jobs in research by 2021. The new development is on land donated by the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) at Norwich Research Park. There will also be space for new start-ups and for existing firms to expand.

The science facilities are due to open in the summer and will be managed by a new joint venture company Colney Innovations Limited. David Parfrey, BBSRC Director of Finance and Director of Colney Innovations Limited, said: “Within one kilometre of this facility, there are no fewer than 2,700 research scientists focussed on health, food and environmental sciences – a unique resource in this country. By 2021, we plan to create the facilities for 5,000 new science-related jobs on Norwich Research Park which will make Norfolk one of the world’s largest single-site scientific research centres.”

Research Technician based in the North East of England

Our client, a leading manufacturer of radiation detection instrumentation, is currently seeking a Technician with a background in physics to join their R&D team at their state-of-the-art facility based in the North East of England.

As a Research Technician, you will play a pivotal role as part of the systems team developing novel equipment around the company’s core technology. You will also be responsible for assisting in setting up experiments and trials, recording, analysing and interpreting data, and re-evaluating projects.

The successful candidate will be qualified to a minimum degree level in physics or related subject, or possess equivalent industrial experience. It is essential that you also have some knowledge and experience in image processing software. This Research Technician role also demands a high level of computer literacy and statistical competency and experience of process image software is desirable.

The position is intended to cover maternity leave but has a chance of becoming permanent. Entitlement to work in the UK is essential.
