Technical Manager – Aberdeen

Barney Smith at CK Science is recruiting for a Technical Manager to work at a specialist polymer manufacturing company based in Aberdeen for a permanent role.

Responsibilities:

As a Technical Manager you will be responsible for providing technical expertise and guidance to clients globally and offshore.  You will also develop polymer coating using extraction and injection moulding techniques to customer specifications.  The team is small and you will have to be hands on and happy to work any area including QA, QC, or dealing with technical specifications.

Qualification and skills:

As a Technical Manager you will have the following skills and experience:

  • Masters qualified in a polymer processing related subject or equivalent industrial experience
  • A proven track record in extrusion or injection moulding

The job:

This Technical Managers role will in the long term offer worldwide travel and ad hoc offshore trips with opportunities later to be stationed abroad. There may be some flexibility in salary with relevant experience within the Oil & Gas sector.

Senior Chemist (Coatings, Paints) – Greater London

Andrew Bolton at CK Science is currently recruiting for a Senior Chemist to join an international chemical manufacturer to be based at their site in Greater London on a full time, permanent basis.

Responsibilities: 

As a Senior Chemist, you will be joining a growing team specialising in the development of coatings & paints for use in industrial applications. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Project management of formulation & development studies surrounding new & existing coating technologies.
  • Carrying out blue sky concept generation.
  • Performing application & analytical testing using physical & chemical techniques.
  • Working closely with manufacturing teams during scale up of products.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate for this Senior Chemist role will have the following qualifications, skills & experience:

  • A qualification in Chemistry, Polymer Science or a related discipline (or equivalent).
  • Demonstrated experience surrounding the development of coatings, paints, emulsions or relevant chemical products (e.g. inks, polymers, fine chemicals).
  • Specific experience of UV Coatings would be advantageous, but it is not essential.

Polymer Chemist – Hertfordshire or Dorset

Andrew Bolton at CK Science is currently recruiting for two Polymer Chemists to join an industry leading Chemical Manufacturer who specialises in Polymer Materials to be based from their sites in Hertfordshire or Dorset on a full time, permanent basis.

Responsibilities:

As a Polymer Chemist, you will be responsible for:

  • Running research & development studies for the organisation’s ranges of adhesives, resins, paints, rubbers, coatings and other polymer materials.
  • Carrying out application testing, coupled with mechanical & physical testing.
  • Working closely with manufacturing teams during scale-up & pilot plant trials.
  • Liaising with customer teams throughout the projects.

Qualifications and skills:

The successful applicant for this polymer chemist role will have the following qualifications, skills & experience:

  • A qualification in Polymer Science, Chemistry, Materials Science or a related discipline (or equivalent).
  • Demonstrated experience in the development of polymer based materials.

Product Development Chemist – Scotland

Responsibilities:

As a Product development Chemist you will be responsible for developing rubber based polymers to customer specifications and requirements.  This will include developing polymers from scratch, developing existing products, compounding, sourcing and maintaining test equipment and providing technical support to clients. 

Qualifications and Skills:

The ideal candidate for this Product development Chemist must be qualified to PhD in organic or polymer chemistry standard or possess equivalent commercial laboratory experience within rubber or plastics development.  They must also possess working knowledge of instrumentation and equipment used in rubber development and compounding and your communication skills must be excellent.

Working as a Quality Engineer, you will be responsible for working as part of a small team involved in designing, developing and maintaining QMS systems on site; running of Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) & 8D projects including development & production validation plans and setting customer standards; supporting DFMEA & PFMEA activities; ensuring resolution of customer complaints and internal product non-conformances through root cause analysis and driving corrective actions as well as conducting audits both internally and of suppliers in line with quality standards (ISO).
