Packaging Technician – West Midlands

Naynesh Mistry at CK Science is currently recruiting for a Packaging Technician to join a world class manufacturer of personal care products, to work at their site in the West Midlands on a permanent basis. 

Job role and responsibilities:

As a Packaging Technician you will assist the Retail Technical Manager in the development of new wet wipe products. A key part of the role will be in the development of packaging – film, labels and corrugate. The position will be responsible for leading and managing projects smaller in scope to ensure consumer acceptance, customer satisfaction, safety and efficacy. The position will also support UK Sales efforts with product sample preparation and technical analysis.

The associate will take work direction from the Technical Director and Retail Technical Manager in the form of project tasks, objectives and strategies, and must be able to work with minimal supervision.

  • Lead the development and introduction of new and improved packaging.
  • Liaise with internal departments, external suppliers and consultants.
  • Assist the Retail Technical Manager and Technical Director in the development of new wet wipe products. 
  • Assist in the preparation and maintenance of Product Information Portfolios (PIP) for each wet wipe product to comply with EU Cosmetic regulations.
  • Arrange challenge testing, efficiency testing, dermatological testing, ageing studies and other technical evaluations etc, within a time scale as necessary. This will involve interpretation and reporting of results.
  • Arrange and technically support factory trials. This will involve liaising with operations, QA, production planning and warehouse to assure objectives are met, setting provisional product specifications, supporting trials, evaluating results, issuing reports and recommending appropriate action.
  • Provide technical information and support Sample Technicians when required. This includes product sample preparation.
  • Ensure laboratory safety policies and guidelines are followed and carry out all laboratory work in a safe manner.
  • Travel may be required as a part of the role. This may be international and a current driving license and passport are requirements of the role.
  • There may be some out of hours attendance on site required.
  • Ensure that you understand and comply with Health & Safety at Work regulations through training and communication.
  • Continually comply with the company hygiene requirements and Good Manufacturing procedures as set out by management.

Qualifications and skills:

The successful candidate for this Packaging Technician role will have the following skills: 

  • The ideal candidate must have a scientific degree from an accredited university. This might include Packaging Technology or science or equivalent.
  • Computer proficient (e-mail, Microsoft Office, Word and Excel).
  • Working knowledge of COSHH and safe lab practices.
  • Must be self-motivated, have good attention to detail and able to work with minimal supervision.
  • The candidate must be proficient in PC programs: MS OFFICE, Outlook, MS-EXCEL, MS-WORD and POWERPOINT.
  • The associate in this position is expected to use project management, technical skills and education to support product development for specific UK customers.
  •  A high level of initiative and independent work style are expected in order to meet the aggressive timelines demanded by customers.

Development Chemist Role – North Wales

Senior Development Chemist Role (Personal Care) – North Wales

Our client, a personal care product manufacturer based in North Wales (also commutable from North West England), are currently looking to recruit a Senior Development Chemist to join their R&D team.

Responsibilities:

The main roles and responsibilities of this Senior Development Chemist will be to take an active role in the company’s new product development activity for consumer products, through research and product development and to provide a professional technical support service to the company.

  • You will develop and implement plans for successful new product development for the business and will develop commercial products in response to customer requests. These must meet proposed claims and must be compliant with relevant regulations.
  • You will represent the company with customers (Internal & External) and suppliers ensuring that a professional technical customer liaison and support service is provided, whilst managing assigned projects to ensure product performance and safety from initiation to completion.
  • You will ensure that adequate formulation and product stability trials are conducted to ensure product’s shelf life as well as product safety testing and validation tests.
  • You will manage research & development trials, with input from manufacturing and engineering, to plan, organise and implement material, product and processing trials.
  • Ensuring compliance with the company’s GMP standard,
  • This is also a customer facing role and you will be required to liaise with other departments and external professionals.

Qualifications and Skills:

To be considered for this Senior Development Chemist role you will be educated to degree level or equivalent in chemistry or a related subject, with considerable experience of developing personal care, household, or FMCG products in industry. You will also have managed development projects in an FMCG business and will have held an active role within a research and development group supporting a high volume of new product launches. Familiar with compliance to GMP standards, you will also possess the following skills:

  • Computer skills to maintain, store and process computerised data spread sheets in the most efficient and easily understandable manner.
  • Accuracy – Ensuring all records are correct and complete.
  • Planning – The ability to plan ahead and prioritise workload to ensure that business requirements are met in a timely fashion.
  • Report writing – the ability to write clear and concise reports and trial instructions.
  • Communication – The ability to build and develop long standing working relationships with both internal and external customers and suppliers to ensure that the objectives of the department and business as a whole are met.
  • Responsibility – Manage new product development formulations from laboratory scale through to commercialisation, ensuring that accurate records are kept of the work done.

Packaging and Graphics Technologist – East Midlands, UK

A Packaging and Graphics Technologist is required to join a leading manufacturer of Pharmaceuticals and Personal Care products on a 12-month contract basis.

The main duties of this Packaging and Graphics Technologist will include:

  • Generating artwork and coordinating projects.

  • Managing the labelling system.

Development Chemist – Therapeutic Skincare, based in Hull, UK

Our client is currently seeking to recruit a Development Chemist to work with them at their site in Hull on a permanent basis.

The aim of this Development Chemist role is to plan, manage and implement functional specific work associated with individual projects, solving technical and formulation changes and make recommendations within their skincare department.

The ideal candidate for this Development Chemist job will be educated to degree level, or equivalent, in a relevant scientific discipline and have direct functional experience in product development within personal care or cosmetics. Experience in medicated skincare, emulsion chemistry, surfactant chemistry and a knowledge of skin physiology is preferred. Entitlement to work in the EEA is essential.
