Sirius Minerals to Create 1,000 Jobs in Yorkshire

Sirius Minerals has recently completed its first successful exploratory borehole at the York Potash project, and has received a grant from the UK government, reports proactiveinvestors.co.uk.

The £2.8 million grant is in response to the very strong possibility of the polyhalite grade that is being drilled for has been found in the main beds is of particularly high grade in the range presented in the York exploratory targets. The grant, which was given the day after the discoveries is intended to help the regional development of the area.

The Yorkshire based project is expected to create 1,000 direct jobs and over 4,000 indirect jobs, as well as supplying the UK with a long-term source of potash, which is used in the agricultural industry. The discovery and government aid has also seen Sirius Mineral’s share prices double in a month.

The H&S Officer / Manager will report to the SHEQ Manager at this small, family run company. You will ideally be qualified in your field and will be experienced in dealing with H&S legislation, including the introduction of new legislation into the chemical field. Experience with REACH is essential. Familiarity of liaising with bodies such as the Environment Agency, the HSE and local water authorities would be a distinct advantage.

Electrochemist – Yorkshire, UK

An Electrochemist is required to join an energy company based in Yorkshire, UK.

The energy company manufactures Fuel Cells and Electrolysers and require an Electrochemist to research, investigate and develop their products, using a range of analytical skills and proven experience in the field.

This Electrochemist position is a lab-based job and the Electrochemist will be involved in developing the fuel cells, electrolysers and their components (including MEAs) and troubleshooting where necessary.

The successful candidate for this Electrochemist position will hold the following experience and knowledge:

  • The Electrochemist will have extensive knowledge of the below techniques and will be expected to use this knowledge to its full potential.
  • The Electrochemist will be proficient in the use of the following techniques: SEM, TEM, XPS, XRD, EDX amongst others.
  • The successful candidate for this Electrochemist position will have experience of either fuel cells or electroysers (preferably both) and EIS relating to them.
  • In addition, any experience of cyclicvoltammetry, thermal decomposition and electroplating of electrocatalysts would be an advantage for this Electrochemist job.

The ideal candidate for this Electrochemist job will have demonstrable problem solving skills. Proven method development are a must for this Electrochemist job, as is a degree (or equivalent) in a related subject and preferably a postgraduate qualification, however this may be substituted for relevant experience in the field.

Mechanical Design Engineer – Leeds, UK

A Mechanical Design Engineer is required for a large multinational organisation involved in the treatment of musculoskeletal systems based in Leeds, UK.


Our client is a large multinational organisation involved in the treatment of musculoskeletal systems with products that include joint implants, trauma devices and biologic products. The company are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer with experience in medical devices for a contract initially running for 12 months.

As a Mechanical Design Engineer you will be working with 4/5 permanent Bioengineers, 4/5 permanent Knee design staff and 4/5 contract knee design engineers.

Working as a Mechanical Design Engineer your main roles and responsibilities will include:

  • Create and manage Engineering Change Orders.
  • Undertake mechanical/numerical analysis.
  • Participate in the systematic review of function and value analysis.
  • Participation in development projects.
  • Assume responsibility for own design commitments & delivering to agreed timescales in line with project plans. Take ownership of design related changes, working with other team members to ensure they are completed and implemented in a timely manner.
  • Undertake more detailed/extensive research.
  • Participate in cross functional projects.
  • Generate data and reports required for the design section of the development history files (DHF).
  • Participate in Design FMEA’s and the companies Risk Management Process.
  • Liaise with and supervise vendors contracted to supply design related information to the company.
  • Recommend inputs to and adhere to Product Design specifications such as Style Guides and other Industrial Design inputs.
  • Work to aggressive product and project cost targets
  • Working as part of a Global Project Core Team with its inherent communication and cultural challenges.

The ideal candidate for this Mechanical Design Engineer job will experience in a medical devices design role and will have a degree or equivalent in Mechanical Design Engineering. You will also have experience in the use of Siemens NX/UnigraphicsCAD design.

Interviews for this role will commence w/c 17th May and successful candidate/s will start in the proceeding 2 weeks. It is essential you are available to start work in this time frame.

Working as an Analytical Chemist you will carry out chemical testing in accordance with approved methods (including HPLC, FTIR, GC) and in compliance with GMP. As an Analytical Chemist you will also be involved in testing products to pre-determined quality standards to meet customer requirements whilst maintaining the highest level of compliance and current Good Manufacturing Practices.

The successful applicant for this Analytical Chemist job will be ideally qualified to a minimum of ONC in Chemistry and be competent in using techniques such as HPLC, GC and FTIR ideally gained within an industrial environment.

Research Biochemist based in the North East of England

Our client is a contract R&D and manufacturing Biopharmaceutical Company based in the North East of England and they require a number of Research Biochemists at different levels to join their downstream purification project team. Positions are available on both a temporary and permanent basis.

Working as a Research Biochemist, you will work as part of a multi-disciplinary project team and be responsible for developing and scaling up processes and supporting their transfer to cGMP manufacture.

To be considered for these Research Biochemist roles, you must have a degree in a biochemistry related subject or equivalent experience and some experience of working in a commercial biotechnology environment. Analytical Chemist Required for Leading Waste Management Organisation, North West, UK

Our client, a leading waste management organisation, is currently looking for an Analytical Chemist to work in the waste sector at their site in the North West of England. This Analytical Chemist role includes shift work and is on a temp to perm basis.

Reporting to the Assistant Site Manager/Operations Manager, the key responsibilities of this Analytical Chemist job will include:

  • To ensure site license, working plan and storage conditions regarding waste treatment and transfer are adhered to
  • To ensure effective operation of all site processes
  • To test for and identify treatment processes for all incoming drummed waste
  • To sample all processes on site and complete daily analysis records
  • To liaise with Site Manager regarding the inputs to the site and where necessary make recommendations based on chemical knowledge
  • To ensure that all records are accurate and up to date
  • To work closely with site operations, customer services and sales
  • To undertake site audits
  • To maintain and update local site procedures
  • To investigate alternative treatment methods available on the site
  • To liaise with regulatory authorities

The ideal candidate for this Analytical Chemist job will possess an HNC qualification in chemistry or degree in chemistry (or equivalent). Previous experience of working in a laboratory environment is required and the candidate will be expected to possess excellent communication, planning and organisation skills and be a good team player. Candidates must be eligible to work in the EEA.
