Contract Quality Engineer Job (Medical Devices) – South Wales

Our client is a world leader in the production of medical visualisation and energy systems for the medical devices industry based in South Wales. The company are currently looking to recruit a contract Quality Engineer to support implementation of Quality Engineering Activities in product design, manufacture and vendor quality assurance in accordance with Company procedures and regulatory requirements.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

As a Quality Engineer, you will have the following duties and responsibilities: 

  • Support operations or as a new design project member, providing directed quality engineering and regulatory expertise in support of design projects. Ensuring solutions are compliant, in the most efficient manner with ISO 13485, FDA 21, CFR Part 820, MDD 93-42-EEC, and their associated applicable consensus standards (IEC60601 series, ISO 11607, ISO 10993).
  • Take a role in ensuring approximate risk management tools such as risk analysis, pFMEA and dFMEA are performed adequately.
  • Review and approval of quality related documentation via ORACLE PLM or other systems including software, mechanical and electronic technology aspects.
  • Assist in the development of appropriate verification and validation strategies including test method validationfor products, processes and components.
  • Generation of process validation plans, review and approval of validation documentation.
  • Where required liaison with vendors including auditing and co-ordination of component qualification activities.
  • Where required support of CSV activity.
  • Provide ad hoc Quality Engineering support in other areas such as; other projects, operations problem analysis, process analysis and process and vendor improvements.
  • All other essential duties as directed.
  • To adhere to the “Rules and Regulations’ of the company as laid out in the Staff Handbook.

 

Education:

The successful candidate for this Quality Engineer position will have the following educational qualifications:

  • HND or equivalent calibre in engineering, science or technology discipline.
  • Proven experience in a quality related field.
  • Preferably experience of a Medical Device environment or similar regulated industry.
  • Exposure to quick evolving environments with cross functional team working.

 

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Basic understanding design and manufacturing processes.
  • Strong metrology skills and understanding of inspection techniques and schemes.
  • Awareness of FMEA or other risk analysis techniques.
  • Experience of use of ORACLE PLM, MS Ecxel,MS Word and Minitab or equivalent.
  • Ability to review technical documentation and drawings in a consistent, constructive and timely manner.
  • Appreciation of vendor quality system auditing skills and vendor development ability.
  • Application of a wide range of inferential statistical techniques.
  • Excellent report writing and presentation skills.
  • Appreciation of requirements of working in a regulatory controlled environment.

Development Team Leader Job (Polymers & Plastics) – North West, UK

Our client, a manufacturer of colours and additives for the polymers and plastics industry, is currently looking to recruit a Development Team Leader to work at their site based in the North West of England.

Responsibilities:

The primary responsibility of the department in which the Development Team Leader will work is to deliver technology programs in support of new technology development.  In addition, the department is responsible for providing technical support to the existing technology base to ensure full exploitation in all company business units. The development of products and technologies in this department will be implemented on a global scale.

As Development Team Leader your roles and responsibilities will be as follows:

  • Designing and delivering new products and technology development projects and ensuring that they are rolled-out in a timely manner;
  • Ensuring that any product modifications necessary for success are implemented; performing regular project reviews, updating marketing plans and formal technical reports;
  • Developing and maintaining an expert understanding of the company’s global technologies, particularly oxygen scavenging materials, mechanisms and processes.

 

Person Specification:

The successful candidate for this Development Team Leader job  will be an effective communicator as you will be regularly liaising with the global development marketing managers, global development manager, regional sales personnel, regional product engineering teams and will also be maintaining effective communication between the operations and commercial departments, and with external organisations and customers.

Decisive and influential, the Development Team Leader will have direct people management responsibility over the extrusion project leader and the extrusion scientist. This is a hands-on position which will involve people and project management.

The selected Development Team Leader will possess the following requirements: educated to MSc (and preferably PhD) level, or equivalent, in a related field (chemistry, polymer science, material science); considerable experience in an R&D environment including proven project management skills; sound communication skills; a flair for technical problem solving; the ability to present findings effectively by means of a report or presentation and to train, develop and manage the performance of team members. Any knowledge of organometallic chemistry, formulation science or colour chemistry would be advantageous, as would European language skills.

This global developer and manufacturer of high-performance coatings for a variety of applications requires a Technical Services Representative to manage their export products across the UK and Europe.

 

Responsibilities:

The roles and responsibilities of this Technical Service Rep will be to provide technical support to the export sales team primarily, while also providing backup support to UK colleagues. You will train other members of staff via hands-on application training.

Further responsibilities will include:

  • You will strive for continuous improvement in response to the demands of the sales and marketing teams and will instil confidence in customers with regard to the quality of the product range and support services.
  • You will be responsible for ensuring that all the authorised contractors/ installers (AC/Is) are adequately trained and can demonstrate their competence in applying products.
  • You will also continually monitor and audit the AC/Is. You will provide assistance in the development and re-engineering of coating product ranges to maximise sales as the technical services department also acts as an overflow for the R&D department.
  • You will also ensure that all technical literature relating to a product is consistent and accurate and will assist the marketing department in writing technical literature.

This challenging role requires you to travel for approximately 50% of the time which includes travel both overseas to the Middle East, Far East, Europe and South America as well as within the UK, and occasional weekends away.

Process Development Chemist Job – North West, UK

Our client, a chemicals manufacturer based in the North West of England, is currently looking for a Process Development Chemist to work within their polymer additives department.

 

Responsibilities:

The roles and responsibilities of this Process Development Chemist / Chemical Engineer will be to implement chemical processes into manufacturing and to translate those processes from a laboratory environment to full scale production. You will analyse and improve existing manufacturing processes to improve the overall quality and efficiency, and also to reduce waste.

The Process Development Chemist will develop working knowledge of all manufacturing processes through plant visits (likely to be overseas) and will transfer those chemical processes from the laboratory to manufacturing. This will include process optimisation, planning and designing scale up to pilot plant level, partnering with manufacturing and other internal resources to identify the best production site, and working closely with manufacturing on process commissioning and start-up. You will also evaluate trials of new manufacturing technology at external tollers to determine the feasibility of production either at the external or the internal manufacturing source.

 

Person Specification:

To be considered for this Process Development Chemist / Chemical Engineer position you will possess a Masters degree (or equivalent) in chemistry or chemical engineering, ideally with PhD knowledge. Considerable industrial experience is essential in the following areas: scale up of manufacturing process from lab to commercial operations; strong expertise in organic chemistry and ideally with anti-oxidant or UV polymer additives; excellent bench / experimentation expertise; strong project management skills; statistical design of experiments expertise and six sigma green or black belt preferred. You will also have strong written and communication skills as well as being happy travelling overseas with work when required.

As Process Improvement Scientist, you will be overseeing the technical performance and compliance of the production processes. • Experience in data management and statistical analysis of process information to identify continuous improvement and improve reliability and capability.

• Ability to interact with process technicians, engineering, analytical support and other operations support personnel.

• Ability to communicate effectively and build relationships at all levels in the organisation.
