Andrew Bolton at CK Science is currently looking for a Laboratory Manager to join an industry leading Water Testing Laboratory at their site in Cambridgeshire on a full time, permanent basis.
Responsibilities:
As a Laboratory Manager, you will be responsible for leading a team within an Analytical Testing / Chemistry laboratory providing water testing services. Your duties will include:
- Day-to-day people management of a medium sized (10 – 14 people) team of Technicians and Analysts including recruitment, training & personal development when required.
- Ensuring sample turnaround including liaising closely with customers throughout the process.
- Maintaining a hands on involvement in analytical testing using techniques such as ICP, GC, MS, AAS & a scope of wet chemistry, coupled with more specialist testing such as cryptosporidium analysis.
- Performing method development and validation of equipment used.
- Ensuring quality systems & documentation are maintained (ISO, DWI).
Qualifications and skills:
As a Laboratory Manager, you will have the following qualifications, skills & experience:
- A qualification in Chemistry or a relevant discipline (or equivalent).
- Demonstrated experience in an analytical testing laboratory. Specific experience in the Water industry would be highly advantageous, but it is not essential.
- Proven people supervisory / team leader experience.

The facility:
As a Compounding Laboratory Manager the successful candidate will lead the unlicensed medicines manufacturing department. The department is at a well established business unit with an excellent track record of quality and value for money, currently manufactures ‘special’ medicines for the NHS, private hospitals and community pharmacies throughout the UK. The department consists of approximately twenty people including two registered pharmacists, and is supported by a small team of releasing pharmacists.
Responsibilities:
This Compounding Laboratory Manager role is a key position in the company and the person appointed will have the opportunity of growing the department to match the expectations of the customer base and placing this company in a position where they can effectively compete in a dynamic marketplace. In the first instance the Manager will report in to the Head of Non sterile production.
The role of Compounding Manager will include;
- Planning and managing production schedules
- Overseeing the formulation activity
- Supervising the costing process
- Managing the customer services function
- Meeting with key customers in NHS hospitals
- Analysing and reporting on profitability
- Improving current manufacturing systems
- Improving productivity
- Implementing a programme of continuous improvement
- Implementing appropriate staff training programmes
- Appraising all staff in the department
- Motivating the production team
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate for this Compounding Laboratory Manager role will have a degree in Pharmacy or equivalent, have line management experience and worked within a aseptic, sterile manufacturing environment.

The job holder will need to provide an effective New Product Introduction service for Clinical Trial clients to ensure new products are introduced successfully and that the processes are developed and validated to ensure the required levels of product quality and regulatory compliance are met. You will also need to deliver a comprehensive process, equipment and cleaning validation programme in accordance with cGMP and Customer requirements.
Qualifications and skills:
To be considered for this Process Improvement Manager position you will have:
- Previous experience in the development or manufacture of healthcare products with a proven track record of new product introduction which is critical to this role.
- In depth knowledge of cGMP, multiple dosage forms with an emphasis on sterile products and an awareness of Unlicensed and Licensed Legislation are key to your success in this role.
- Previous leadership and management skills would be an advantage.
You will also enjoy working cross functionally in a fast paced environment with teams of diverse people, have a can do attitude with the capability to plan and see the bigger picture, excellent Leadership and Customer Service skills and the ability to influence and build relationships at all levels across the business.

Naynesh Mistry is looking to recruit a Product Characterisation Manager, to join a biopharmaceutical development organisation to work at their site in the North West on a permanent basis.
Job Purpose:
This Product Characterisation Manager position will provide expert technical guidance in the area of protein and carbohydrate chemistry and characterization in support of business objectives. This role will be responsible for undertaking complex analytical investigative projects and for keeping abreast of scientific developments in the protein and carbohydrate sciences area. This position will evaluate emerging technologies to drive new/improved service offerings and provide expert scientific advice to support company business. This role will require in-depth scientific understanding as well as hands-on experience regarding key analytical techniques. Those include state-of-the-art sample preparation techniques, analysis of mono-, di-, oligo-, and polysaccharides by applying techniques such as HPLC, CE, IEC, SEC as well as advanced protein characterization by applying techniques such as HPLC, LC-MS, Electrophoresis and Bio-analysis. It will also include complex data/result interpretation. Materials to be analysed will include a range of in-process, bulk drug substance and formulated products.
Responsibilities:
The responsibilities of this Product Characterisation Manager role will include:
- Provide protein and carbohydrate sciences expert support to the Analytical Group.
- Actively guide a portfolio of analytical techniques to ensure up to date and product tailored characterization capabilities.
- Manage a small team of technical/scientific professionals in assigned area.
- Ensure continuous development of technical skills and knowledge on products and processes within the Analytical team. Train/mentor junior staff.
Candidate Requirements:
The successful candidate for this Product Characterisation Manager role will have the following:
- A science based degree BSc/MSc or PhD preferred significant work (including laboratory) experience in area of expertise.
- Proven track record of scientific/technical achievements relevant for position. Demonstrated innovation and technical leadership skills.
- Demonstrated team management and development skills.
- Proven ability to solve complex analytical problems.
- In-depth knowledge of complex analytical data & ability to apply scientific rationale to providing practical technical solutions.
- Excellent communication skills and proven track record of presenting research projects or other scientific data at seminars and other scientific symposia.
- High degree of autonomy.
Also the candidate will preferably have knowledge of biopharmaceutical and bio similar manufacturing processes & technologies with an ability to apply scientific rationale to providing practical technical solutions.

Hannah Milward is currently looking for a Plant Manager to join a agrochemical company in Telford in the West Midlands.
Responsibilities:
The role of Plant Manager is the most senior position on the Telford site and holds managerial status and responsibilities. As such the job holder is responsible for all of the activities carried out on the site even though the actual tasks are carried out by sub-ordinate staff. The job holder reports to the Managing Director who is based at head office. Responsibilities of the role are as follows:
- Leading and Managing a staff of 30
- Ensuring pesticide manufacture is carried out safely and efficiently
- Ensuring that a management process is in place to produce quality products
- Ensure that the operations are carried out efficiently with attention to maximising output and reducing costs
- Planning the work schedule for the staff
- Keeping senior management informed of project/order progress
- Providing information for head office staff e.g. Export Manager for packing lists
- Ensuring that stock is kept in a well organised fashion and stock control records are kept up to date
- Ensuring manufacturing assets are maintained and delivering optimum performance.
- Responsible for allocating overtime on an as needed basis up to a maximum of £2000 pcm unless otherwise advised by the Marketing Director.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate for this Plant Manager role will have:
- Degree or equivalent in chemistry or a relevant discipline
- Excellence in management and motivation
- Previous track record of success in improving operations efficiency
- Experience in pesticide manufacture/formulation is desirable
- Natural leader
- Project and logistics management expertise

The benefits of this Plant Manager role are:
- Salary of circa £30K depending on experience plus a productivity bonus up to £5K pa
