Job of the Week: Engineering Supervisor Job in Cambridgeshire

This week’s Job of the Week is an Engineering Supervisor position with an industry leading Polymer Materials Manufacturer. To find out more about this role, please watch Andrew’s video and read the job description below:

The role:

As Engineering Supervisor you will manage the company’s QC Laboratory at their site in Cambridgeshire. You will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the QC Laboratory which is involved in mechanical testing of polymer materials in support of the Development & Production Teams.

Your duties will include:

  • Management of the team of Technicians including assigning daily work and providing training / direction;
  • Ensuring sample turn around including working closely with production & technical support to minimise downtime and optimise testing;
  • Evaluation of current processes and coordination of continuous improvement in line with Lean & 5s methodologies including using ERP & MRP systems as well as ensure facilities are maintained in line with internal & quality standards.

 

The ideal candidate:

To be considered for this Engineering Supervisor role, you will have a qualification in a related Engineering (Mechanical, Testing, Production) discipline (or equivalent), working knowledge of mechanical / QC testing of materials and demonstrated supervisory or management experience. Experience of ERP or MRP systems would be highly advantageous, but it is not essential.

Junior Risk & Safety Consultant (Oil & Gas, Engineer) – North West

Victoria Walker is currently recruiting for a Junior Risk & Safety Consultant to join an environmental and engineering consultancy based in the North West.

Responsibilities:

The main roles and responsibilities of this Junior Risk & Safety Consultant role will be to provide support to various project managers working on mainly Risk and Safety Projects with the possibility to work across other areas. You will be participating in projects in the following typical areas:

  • Hazard Identification Risk Assessment (Qualitative and Quantitative)
  •  HAZOP Consequence Analysis including modelling (Dispersion
  •  fires, explosion, etc)
  • Reliability Assessments
  • Human Factors Assessments
  • Safety and Environmental Management Systems
  • Preparation of documents to satisfy regulations administered by government regulators such as Environment Agency and Health and Safety Executive, including COMAH (Seveso) safety reports.
  • You will also participate in the preparation of proposals and service development.

Qualifications:

In order to be considered for this Junior Risk & Safety Consultant role you will have a 1st degree or equivalent in Chemistry, Engineering, Process/ Chemical Engineering, Chemical Technology or allied subject, and ideally a 2nd degree in Safety and Loss Prevention. You will have experience in the following areas:

  • Process engineering and technology, preferably in the oil, gas, energy and chemical industries.
  • Understanding of process hazards.
  • Computer modelling of fire, explosion and toxic hazards, particularly using PHAST
  • COMAH experience would be an advantage. Health, Safety and Environment management systems.

Typically the successful candidate would be expected to have some experience of practical industrial work. This could be in the process industry in a technical, design or process role, or work experience with a regulatory/consultancy in the industrial field in order to have the skills and knowledge to be successful in this role. However, depth and breadth rather than length of experience will be considered when making recruitment decisions. You will be numerate and able to manipulate spread sheets.

The Role:

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will be part of a multi-disciplinary team involved in all stages of customer projects from concept, through to development, commissioning and installation. Your duties will include the design & development of novel technologies, with a focus on rotating equipment such as compressors, pumps, fans & steam turbines; preparation of specifications, tender evaluations and monitoring of progress of drawings & manufactured equipment / components as well as attending meetings with clients & vendors. You may also be required to travel to customer’s sites within the UK or Overseas to supervise equipment commisioning, installation and testing.

The ideal candidate:

The successful candidate for this Senior Mechanical Engineer position will have a degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline (or equivalent) and demonstrated experience in a similar position gained within an equipment manufacturer or a related chemical industry. Andrew is looking for  several Engineering Technicians to join the company’s Engine, Vehicle and Synthetic Departments based from their state of the art facilities in Hertfordshire.

Roles available:

Engine Test Technician – You will be involved in carrying out catalyst preparation; operation and support of engine test beds; data checks and maintenance of the engine test facility. This role is shift based, consisting of day and late shift working patterns.

Vehicle Test Technician – You will be involved in carrying out emissions testing; performing test cycle driving; data processing; catalyst changing as well as general workshop based tasks. This role is on a day shift basis.

Synthetic Test Technician – You will be involved in the operation of test rigs to ensure the performance of their catalyst and other emission control technologies. Your duties will include preparing and loading test pieces; handling of synthetic exhaust mixtures; programming and running test sequences as well as carrying out rig maintenance. This role is shift based, consisting of day and night shift working patterns.

The ideal candidates:

To be considered for these positions, you will have either a vocational qualification in a Mechanical or other Engineering discipline (or equivalent) OR demonstrated experience in a Test Laboratory / Workshop or Quality Control environment within the Automotive, Chemical or a Manufacturing based industry.

Responsibilities:

As a Project Engineer, your main responsibilities will include leading multi-disciplinary teams on projects within the drug delivery, diagnostic and other medical technology applications. Further duties of this role will include:

  • Working closely with customers to identify and design technical product or system solutions and in turn producing proposals to meet their requirements
  • Leading design engineering including hands on use of 3D CAD to produce designs of components, systems or products

Person Specification:

To be considered for this Mechanical Engineer role you will have a BSc in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline (or equivalent).  Excellent knowledge of fluidics, structures, materials and/or thermodynamics. Previous experience in medical device development would be advantageous but not essential. Experience with MATLAB and/or MATHCAD would be ideal. Project management experience would also be ideal.
