Technical Manager – Polymer Coatings, North West

Victoria Walker is recruiting a Technical Manager to join the R&D team of a manufacturer of polymeric coatings with application in a range of industries, in the North West of England. 

Responsibilities:

The main roles and responsibilities of this Technical Manager will be to supervise the expanding R&D department as well as managing technical support staff. Expected to travel to other sites as and when required (both in the UK and abroad), you will report to the MD of this company who supply their products to the automotive, oil, industrial and consumer industries.

Qualifications:

To be considered for this Technical Manager position you will ideally be educated to degree level (or similar) in a related subject and will have managed technical teams in previous roles. Having worked within the coatings industry, you will ideally have expertise with liquid or powder coatings and will have be able to prove your knowledge of having worked in an industrial lab.

Technical Sales Manager Job (Adhesives, Coatings) – South, UK

Our client, an innovative Chemical Manufacturer specialising in Adhesives & Coatings, are currently looking for a Technical Sales Manager to join their UK Sales Team in a field based role within the South of the UK.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a innovative and forward thinking Chemical Manufacturer, which in return offer a competitive salary, a benefit scheme including company car as well as an attractive commission scheme.

 

Responsibilities:

Working as a Technical Sales Manager, you will be responsible for selling the organisation’s Adhesive and Coating product ranges to industrial based customers across the whole of the South of the UK. Your duties will include technical sales to both an established, yet ever growing client base; key account management of core customers as well as offering technical support via phone/email and in-situ including carrying out product demonstrations.

 

Person Specification:

To be considered for this role, you will have a degree in Chemistry, Polymer Science, Material Science or a related Scientific or Engineering discipline (or equivalent) and demonstrated experience in a Polymer or relevant Chemical industry. The successful candidate will either have previous experience in a technical sales function or experience in a technical function with some customer support who is now looking to move into technical sales.

A full UK Driving Licence and the willingness to travel within the south of the UK is essential for this position.

Principal Scientist – London, UK

A global consumer healthcare company is looking for an experienced Principal Scientist to join their team based in the London area.

Our client is a global consumer healthcare company who are looking for an experienced scientist with the technical expertise that is relevant to, or can be applied to, oral care including dentin hypersensitivity/pain management and/or tooth erosion, such as drug delivery systems, surface modification, polymers/coatings and medical devices.

Reporting to the Director in New Product Research, as Principal Scientist you will have responsibility for building the brand technology pipeline by identifying, creating and driving new internal and external technology opportunities, ensuring these new technologies address key consumer needs, becoming a recognised technical expert in dentin hypersensitivity/pain management and/or tooth erosion and designing exploratory in vitro and in vivo work programs for proof of principal testing with colleagues in the Medical affairs, clinical operations and new product development groups.

The ideal candidate for this Principal Scientist job will possess a PhD or equivalent in biology, biochemistry, chemistry, microbiology or science/healthcare related discipline and a proven track record identifying and delivering new active agents and technologies. Experience of working in a cosmetic/regulated environment, reapplying technologies from other industries to develop and deliver new products to market is also essential for this Principal Scientist job.

Development Chemists – North West, UK

Two Development Chemists are required for join a coatings company based in the North West, UK. One Development Chemist will join their coil coatings department, and the other their powder coatings department.

The main responsibilities of these Development Chemist jobs will include:

  • Planning and developing new coating products and technologies in accordance with the company’s strategic and tactical programmes.
  • Completing any laboratory work requests that are assigned by the team leader in an efficient, organised, scientific and professional manner.
  • Researching, reviewing and identifying new raw materials and technologies in coil or powder coatings. These may then form the foundation of new/optimised coating formulations and technologies.
  • Preparing and defining project plans and timings with the team leader and technical manager for new development projects and ensuring that the expected progress is achieved.
  • Assisting in the preparation of PDS / MSDS for all new products developed together with any additional quality documentation that may be required.
  • Participating in any technical service and customer visits as required.
  • Providing accurate supplier information to the process control and the quality manager as required in order to ensure an efficient conclusion to any customer concerns or complaints. Obtaining and providing for technical reviews, samples, data sheets or information concerning competitor products and performance.
  • Providing written or verbal updates on projects regularly.
  • Preparing reports, presentations and communications on any project or technical support work.
  • Participating in the laboratory and industry monthly meetings.
  • Providing support and cover for other members of the sector team as directed to do so.
  • Ensuring that the work area conforms to the requirements of the housekeeping system.
  • Carrying out work in a safe, environmentally acceptable manner.

The ideal candidates for these Development Chemist jobs will have a degree (or equivalent) in chemistry or polymer science and will have hands-on experience with working with coatings.

Laboratory Technician – Coatings – Scotland

Our client, a coatings manufacturer, is looking for a Laboratory Technician with a background in chemistry to join their development team based in Scotland.

As Laboratory Technician you will play an active part in developing inks and coatings for a clients based in a range of different industries.

This Laboratory Technician job will include quality testing, formulations, colour matching and dealing with customer queries and complaints. In order for the projects to be successfully carried out, you will be required to work with a number of different departments so communication  and an ability to work with different teams is paramount.

The ideal candidate for this Laboratory Technician job will be qualified to a minimum HNC in chemistry or related subject or possess equivalent industrial experience. Technical Manager based in the North-Mid Wales/ North West of England Area

Our client, a key player within the Chemical Sector, are currently looking for a Technical Manager to join their team based in the North-Mid Wales/North West of England area.Technical Manager will lead the technical department ensuring it effectively and efficiently meets the current and future needs of the business.

The roles and responsibilities of this Technical Manager position will include:

  • Leading and managing the Technical and Laboratory Functions.
  • Ensuring efficient management systems, working practices and reporting systems are in place.
  • To reorganise the department into a flexible, efficient resource that meets the varying technical needs of the business – today and tomorrow.
  • Clarify the roles and responsibilities within the Technical Department and introduce management by objectives, appraisals and similar techniques to monitor and manage performance and outputs.
  •  Keep abreast of legislative and technology changes and manage the threats and / or opportunities they bring.
  • Establish first class housekeeping, health and safety, MSDS management and similar laboratory procedures.

The ideal candidate for this Technical Manager position will possess an HNC qualification in chemistry or degree in chemistry (or equivalent). Previous experience of working with formulations/ coatings/ paints in a laboratory environment is essential and the candidate will be expected to possess excellent communication, problem solving, leadership, planning and organisation skills and be a good team player. A knowledge of industrial and marine coatings is also desirable but is not essential. Candidates must be eligible to work in the EEA.

As a Development Chemist you will lead projects on new and existing inks and coatings which will involve managing them through conception to launch. This will include planning, sourcing raw materials, R&D testing, maintaining and updating technical documentation and off site technical support.
