Cambridge Science Park Acquired by US Giant

As reported by Business Weekly, the US real estate investment company, BioMed Realty Trust, has acquired Granta Park, a leading science park based in Cambridge for £126.8m.

Currently, the Cambridge-based Science Park as 11 lab and office buildings and it’s tenants include some of the worlds leading pharma and biotech organisations including Gilead Sciences, UCB and Vernalis. The investment from BioMed Realty will also current tenant relationships with companies such as MedImmune and Pfizer to be extended.

Speaking of the agreement, BioMed Realty stated, “The Cambridge UK research community is anchored by the University of Cambridge, established in 1209, with 20 per cent of the world’s Nobel Prize recipients in medicine and chemistry and the recipient of over 280 million pounds in research grants in 2011.

“This Cambridge science cluster supports over 1,000 science and technology companies, the Wellcome Trust, the largest medical research charitable organisation in the world, Cavendish Laboratory, and the Babraham Institute.”Cambridge Science Park Acquired by US Giant

Development Chemist Job (Inks) – Hertfordshire/Cambridgeshire, UK

Our client, a leading Inks Technology organisation, are currently looking for a Development Chemist to join their growing R&D Team based from their site in the Hertfordshire & Cambridgeshire region.

This is an outstanding opportunity to join a innovative Inks Technology organisation, which in return offers an attractive salary and benefits package.

Responsibilities:

Working as a Development Chemist, you will be involved in the formulation & development of the organisations specialist Inks; exploring colloid / pigment dispersion and measurement as well as scale up of laboratory formulations to manufacturing.

Person Specification:

To be considered for this Development Chemist role, you will have a degree / PhD in Chemistry, Material Science or a related discipline (or equivalent) and demonstrated experience in a Product Development function gained within an Inks industry.

Senior Protein Formulation Scientist based in Cambridge, UK

An exciting Senior Protein Formulation Scientist job has arisen at a global biologics unit based at a state-of-the-art Cambridge site. This site is home to around 390 employees, and serves as our client’s European hub for research and development.

This innovative company is committed to developing better medicines that help people live healthier, longer and more satisfying lives. The company’s main specialisms are focused on the areas of infection, respiratory and inflammatory disease, oncology and neuroscience.

Working as a Senior Research Scientist, you will be responsible for managing, coordinating and directing a team of scientists performing analytical work associated with the formulation development of proteins. You will ideally have a Biological Sciences related PhD, preferably with a strong biochemical component. You will also have a strong background in practical Laboratory industrial experience, preferably with protein analytical components. Additional requirements for this Senior Research Scientist role include:

  • Practical experience preferred of at least some of the following techniques: SDS-PAGE, Isoelectric Focussing, HPLC, UV-vis spectrophotometry, ELISA, fluorescence, DSC, general protein chemistry methodologies
  • Knowledge of thermodynamics
  • Good practical ability within a laboratory environment
  • Good management experience
  • Computer literate
  • A team player with excellent communication and organizational skills
