Polymer Chemist – Hertfordshire or Dorset

Andrew Bolton at CK Science is currently recruiting for two Polymer Chemists to join an industry leading Chemical Manufacturer who specialises in Polymer Materials to be based from their sites in Hertfordshire or Dorset on a full time, permanent basis.

Responsibilities:

As a Polymer Chemist, you will be responsible for:

  • Running research & development studies for the organisation’s ranges of adhesives, resins, paints, rubbers, coatings and other polymer materials.
  • Carrying out application testing, coupled with mechanical & physical testing.
  • Working closely with manufacturing teams during scale-up & pilot plant trials.
  • Liaising with customer teams throughout the projects.

Qualifications and skills:

The successful applicant for this polymer chemist role will have the following qualifications, skills & experience:

  • A qualification in Polymer Science, Chemistry, Materials Science or a related discipline (or equivalent).
  • Demonstrated experience in the development of polymer based materials.
  • Experience working / liaising with customer teams would be advantageous but it is not essential.

Microbiology Manager (Food Manufacturing) – Oxford

Andrew Bolton at CK Science is currently recruiting for a Microbiology Manager to join a global Packaging Manufacturer at their state-of-the-art facilities in Oxfordshire on a full time, permanent basis.

Responsibility:

As a Microbiology Manager, you will have overall responsibility for Microbiology expertise & activities on site including:

  • Providing microbiology support & expertise to development projects & manufacturing on-site in the areas of food manufacturing & processing (in particular heat processed food).
  • Leading a team of Microbiologists on site.
  • Managing & carrying out product monitoring & hygiene audits internally & at customer sites.
  • Providing technical advice to customer teams.

Qualification and Skills:

As a Microbiology Manager you will have a qualification in Microbiology or a related discipline (or equivalent) and knowledge of some or all of the following:

  • Heat-preserved foodstuffs and beverages
  • Heat-processing and pasteurisation of foods and beverages.
  • Spoilage mechanisms of processed foods and beverages.
  • Recovery, isolation and identification of spoilage microorganisms to genus/species level.
  • Hygiene of food and beverage packing processes.
  • Hygienic manufacture of packaging and validation of in-plant controls.
  • Aseptic filling and sealing
  • Microbial resistance to heat-processing and chemical sterilisation techniques.
  • Alternative non-thermal processes.
  • Packaging decontamination mechanisms.
  • Challenge testing of packaging seals, filling processes, sterilisation and decontamination.

Working as an Analytical Chemist / Analyst, you will be responsible for the analysis of chemical samples, using a wide range of physical property analysis (ASTM, IP) and analytical techniques such as ICP, AA, GCMS, HPLC and GC. Working in a busy, customer facing laboratory, you will also be required to monitor quality standards in the laboratory (UKAS, ISO) as well as liaise with the customer surrounding results of tests.

Your duties will include the design (CAD) and prototyping of systems in line with customer requirements; implementing technology development as well as carrying out testing and validation of subsystems and systems solutions through empirical testing and analytical models.
