Chemists (Shift and Day Positions) – North East

Barney Smith at CK Science is recruiting for a number of Chemists to join a company that provides analytical services to the Oil & Gas and Chemicals sector at their site in the North East

The job:

The company have openings for a number of chemists at different levels to work either on days or on shifts in analysing bitumen, oil and petrochemicals.

As a Chemist you will be required to collect samples from external sources which will involve climbing ladders and working in confined spaces.  It is a high throughput environment with quick turnaround times and the analysis will involve GC, AA,IR, UV and Karl Fischer.

Qualifications and skills:

The successful applicant for these Chemist roles will receive full training but must have at the very minimum a basic level of understanding of chemistry and ideally commercial lab experience.  The ideal candidates will be able to drive, be happy working unsociable hours and be able to work at heights and in confined spaces. They must be flexible in their approach to work and be happy to take on responsibility.

Microbiology Analyst – North East

Heather Deagle is currently recruiting for a Microbiology Analyst to join a large pharmaceutical company to work on an initially temporary six month contract covering maternity leave.

Responsibilities: 

As a Microbiology Analyst working to strict cGMP, the successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Performing and environmental monitoring of the clean room facilities on site
  • Sampling and analysis of the quality water systems
  • Ensuring that media and reagents are tested and approved within required timelines.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate for this Microbiology Analyst role will have a degree, HNC or similar in a microbiology or life science based subject with proven experience of ingram stain, biochemical identification, endotoxin testing and environmental monitoring.

Analytical Chemist – (ICP, HPLC) Scotland

Barney Smith is currently looking for an Analytical Chemist to join an analytical laboratory based in Scotland.

Responsibilities:

As an Analytical Chemist you will be responsible primarily for analysis of oil, gas and chemical samples using ICP, IC and HPLC.  You will also supervise staff, collect samples from sites and calibrate and validate instrumentation. 

Qualifications:

The successful candidate for this Analytical Chemist role must be qualified to minimum HNC/HND level in chemistry or related subject or possess equivalent industrial experience.  In addition, you will have a proven track record using the above instrumentation ideally in a supervisory role.

Laboratory Manager (Environmental) – Scotland

Barney Smith at CK Science is looking for a Laboratory Manager to join an Environmental Consultancy who provides a range of services to clients internationally to join them at their site in Scotland. Due to a significant increase in workload they have a requirement for someone to run their sample process laboratory.

Responsibilities:

This Laboratory Manager role is high pressure and will involve:

  • sample prep and analysis
  • work planning and scheduling
  • staff management
  • costing of projects and quotes
  • report writing
  • maintenance of quality procedures

Skills required:

For this Laboratory Manager role a background in science and laboratory management would be useful but project management skills and planning work are essential for the role.  You will also be confident enough to supervise staff, suggest change in procedures as required and negotiation. Your time will involve both analysis and management and you must be a self-starter who would be happy in a hands-on role.

Analytical Chemist Job (Materials, Water) – London, UK

Our client, a leading Chemical & Materials Testing Laboratory, are currently looking for an Analytical Chemist to join their Analytical Testing facilities based from their site in Surrey, UK.

Working as an Analytical Chemist, you will be responsible for carrying out leaching testing as well as other chemistry based analytical techniques to assess various non-metallic materials suitability for use in water supply systems in line with industry regulatory standards (WRAS [Water Regulatory Advisory Scheme] and of the DWI [Drinking Water Inspectorate])

Shift Analyst Job – (Crude Oil, Petrochemical) – London, UK

Our client, an industry leading Petrochemical Testing Laboratory, are currently looking for a Shift Analyst to join their state-of-the-art Crude Oil Assay Laboratory facilities based at their site in London.

Working as a Shift Analyst, you will be responsible for distilling and analysing crude oil samples and other hydrocarbon products using a range of analytical, characterisation and deposition tests such as Crude oil characterization, hydrocarbon analysis, Asphaltene and Waxes deposition as well as catalyst pilot plant evaluation testing.

This Shift Analyst role is on a rotating, three shift system, based on Monday to Friday – 7am to 3pm, 3pm to 11pm or 11pm to 7am.
